I started a blog in Jan this year but for one reason or another didn't have time to do much with it. For the last couple of weeks I've started writing daily and promoting it. Gradually the traffic has gone up and today I hit 7000 unique visitors by the afternoon. When I compare this to a site I've been working on for years which only gets around 1000, I feel like I could make some serious money if I can keep up the work. I've been using adsense on the blog but I'm earning maybe $1 a day. Has anyone got any tips on other options I could try or how to improve the adsense. Thanks
Is the site in your signature? What kind of impressions are you getting daily? Maybe you are not getting targeted traffic which can result in few clicks and low earnings.
Try to change the location of your adsense and try to use different colors. Use channels and see what ads are giving you money Maybe that can help you.
First you need to check what is the source of the traffic. If the traffic is originating from social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon etc then there is less chance of conversion. Also try changing ad formats and see if adsense earning changes.
What is the site? Maybe something like WB would work better if its a blog on electronics or such? Or maybe CJ.... Or it could just be your ad placement.
Try putting an ad in between a post or two. Under your area on links, but that google ad at the top of that list... Also check out CJ, and look for soccer affiliates. Maybe sell a team jersey or something..... Good Luck
It says it has an Alex rank of > 26,000,000. I'm not sure how that can convert to 7,000 visitors. From what I can see, there is only one ad on the site. I used to own a lot of football blogs and some good advice is the have 3 columns or go for a mag style layout. Soccer adsense is not good at the moment though.
fadetoblack22 - Alexa isnt accurate...It only works if the people have the alexa toolbar installed....And the only ones with it really are other webmasters....
Wow! 7000 uniques, I can't believe it, but congrats. As an advice, try to change the positioning of adsense and the link colors.
And why in the world are you talking about Alexa? lol Ontopic: Place a 336x280 Ad on top and you'll be fine.
I don't think the ALexa ranking updates that quickly anyway does it? I know analytics is telling me nearly 8000 now and I seem to be top or near top of most of the blog lists I'm on. I'll try some of the ideas, thanks.
As Mabbs said, it may have not updated. But although Alexa isn't accurate, it can give a general idea of traffic and 26 mill is a pretty big number for alexa. Plus they have changed the way they do it now, so its not just with the toolbar aparently. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all a supporter.
NewsNow traffic will rarely give you good earnings cause they visit to read and exit. It's basically artificial traffic driven by catchy headlines
