$70

A few months ago, I created an account with a web host. I paid through PayPal. After a month had passed (I was past my refund period), I decided I didn't really like them, so I just abandoned the account and took my business elsewhere, expecting the account to fade away by itself.

Here we are several months later, I decide to log back into the old account just to see if it was still active. It was. I owe them just under $70 for months I didn't even use.

In the control panel dashboard thing, it says:

It's been well over 30 days since I logged into that account, and my account is NOT terminated, it's as active as can be, though there is no site on it.

Anyway, this is probably my fault. I should have cancelled the account instead of expecting it to cancel itself, but I owe these people just under $70 which, in the state I'm in, can't currently afford.

Where do I go from here? It's been months and I haven't heard from them, will this continue or what?

    Thank you.

Have you tried to contact the web host billing support to try to sort it out?

If you want to terminate an account with any hosting company then you should follow thier termination procedure.
This saves a lot of headaches in the long run.
No one likes losing a client but if a client is not happy with the service they are getting then
it costs nothing to simply let the company know they want to terminate the contract and it can
be arranged amicably between both parties.

My advice is to make sure you put in the terminatin notice at least 5 days before the next payment is due.
If you leave it till after the next payment should have been made then you are liable and should make that payment.

Depending upon what the terms of the agreement were with the site, it seems likely that legally-speaking you owe the $70 because you did not terminate the site. If you want to get out of paying what you owe, then I suggest that you appeal to their sense of compassion in a very nice way. If you try to bully your way into having them write off the payment, you will likely get little cooperation from them.

I agree with Business Attorney. You probably owe them the $70 because you didn't cancel the account and just though it would go away on its own.
