Well, I guess that answers my question.

I followed the guidelines very, very carefully. Submitted twice, I think, in about three years.

    I'll give up, too.

not exactly. Google trusts DMOZ because it's human edited (humans do it better). DMOZ is the king of all directories.

Agree with this....It took me 3 years for one of my sites. And I do not recieve any traffic at all from dmoz...lol...I spent months worried over this and nothing at all gained from it once it was approved.

    Good luck

dmoz doesn't bring traffic; it's a directory and directories don't generate too much traffic. All you get is a good IBl and nothing more.

You are reffering to the infamous shoemoney dmoz shambles, in my view i think the whole thing was a linkbait plan that either
    a. got out of hand
    b. worked very well
depending on how you look at it, either way shoemoney and dp got over a 1000 links each for it.

The problem may be that while your content is good, the front page looks spammy. Also, the category you should submit to is likely swamped with submissions. In other words: become an editor yourself.

My experience is that if a sites been around long enough and has plenty of traffic, it somehow pops up on DMOZ anyway....

You are actually wrong, editors say themselves that following the guidelines is shaky advice!

    There are no guidelines

Seemingly, you can completely ignore the guidelines so long as you have unique content.

Getting a listing in the ODP falls down to a game of chance where the true variables are the whims and wiles of the editor that happens across a given site within the queue.

Submit and forget, or forget to submit ~ the wait time for both is about the same. In the meantime, a submitter should work on promoting their site by other means.

Actually, getting into DMOZ has been a lottery for some years now. It's well worth trying to get in, but really, it isn't something to obsess over because the administration is so bad these days. If you can't get in to the category you want to, try getting into your local town or village category. I got into the East Molesey category - I mean, who'd think there was one?
