I have to disagree on the link buying bit not working, you buy a link on a high pr site with very few other out bound links and it will help. I'll use your example of cnn.com, let's say that somehow for some reason someone that works on the cnn.com site decided to sell 3 links on it for $3,000 a link a month. You bet your ass that link would help you and would be well worth the 3 grand. Now obviously that's never going to happen with cnn.com but there are some pretty reputable high pr sites out there that will sell a few links now and again and they do help if you got the cash flow.

I really like one and two I always laugh when I see those threads. Your point seven is somewhat valid, but personally after submitting to a few thousand I have noticed an increase of links for the title of my site and an increase in SERPs position. Now doing a hundred or two submissions will not do anything, but when you start submitting to thousands you begin seeing some pay off for your work at least that is my experiance.

#6 is awesome...its something I knew subconsciously had I thought about it but by bringing it to the forefront I'll now remember to utilize it!

i liked very much this :
AND please guys.. Stop trying to "hog PR" it doesn't work, google rewards you if you make do-follow links to quality sites. Start linking to websites you like / seen.

That is the true. Very useful information and thank you for sharing your knowledge

Good insights. I will have to disagree on the links-buying bit though. It works just fine, provided that you are buying links from legitimate sites with high PR of course.

Regarding the directory submission bit, yes it doesn't work as well as press release and writing articles, but it does help that tad bit although it's hard work.

I can't agree more on PR hogging. High PR is NOT equivalent to high traffic. It has been a myth for a long time and still is up till these days.

That "I got PR5 within a week!" thread, I really don't know if I should believe it or not lol... 1/3 of me does but the rest of me says BS!

I try to link to relevant (big name) sites in my niches... I also sometimes link to these types of sites with my article submissions. I'm not quite sure of the effectiveness of this strategy but it seems to me that it places my site in the same world as those big sites and that should be a good thing.

Would someone please explain something to me about point # 4? How do you know if some other blog is a "follow" or "no follow"?

    Thank you.

    Hi Tarkan...

Great post. I think we've all tried some or all of these things. I think the most important point, to me, was getting do-follow links to quality sites. Keep up the good work!!

I’m absolutely agreed with your thread…. Nice thread…  It’s so many people cheat, give any promise.

On the other hand, nobody in the world know how the Google make their page rank... except Google.

You can find page rank 2 have much traffic more than page rank 4, which one is a better for your business. …???

In the other case, you will get a web with two backlinks but they have page rank 4, is it possible….??? Yes it’s possible caused they have niche content and they have much more traffic.

In my opinion is all about a content… ^_^

You can view the page source and find 'nofollow'. If you manage to find any it probably means it's nofollow.

Competition always mean a few things:
    a. They are doing if not relevant then exactly the same thing you're doing.
    b. They are hard to beat, probably in top 10, hence they are the competitors.

    So linking to them will:

    a. Get a boost in your SERPS and PR from keyword relevance from a highly ranked website.
    b. Stop them from backstabbing you!!! like lodging unnecessary complaints against you etc.
