All these points are actually SEO related, the thing is if you are capable of doing all these SEO jobs and you have enough time to spend on it along with managing your business then you don't need an SEO professional.............but You NEED SEO and that too Ethical SEO to promote your site.

SEO is basically done to optimize your site for search engines and to get organic traffic via them. Marketing via word of mouth can't get you much traffic, i know that word of mouth is the best of marketing and to get genuine clients. but however, i think if you are targeting world wide clients then you must do SEO for your website. It will help you to boost the keywords of your site and keywords are the main elements by which internet surfers are going to search your site.
If you want to have your website rank well on search engines, i think SEO is really vital to reach that. It has been proven that SEO friendly websites has a higher chance in getting ranked than regular website.
@ tuandj Only writing good and fresh contents can't get you the backlinks benefit. To get a PR you need to optimize your site for search engines. To get better searches via search engines you need to optimize your website keywords and keyphrases. Without optimization i don't think any website can reach at top of the search engines. Just tell me one thing, do you own a website?
I think a better way of looking at it would be: "7 reasons why you don't need to focus entirely on SEO." It's true that content is the king. However, even GREAT content can be left unseen if you aren't getting any traffic whatsoever. So there's always going to be some effort needed, whether it be SEO, social networking, or straight up advertising to get your stuff out there. And I have a good feeling that even the most successful websites did a ton of promoting and link building in their early stages. That's how they've managed to get such a large amount of readers over time.
SEO is a demon created by Google. So blame it to google that a whole new dirty thing has been created. I am not sure how this demon will go.
Belive it or not tuandj, its not that simple. I did tried this too, and you really need to build backlinks, no one will ever link to your site if your site is a low interest niche, like a pension site....anyway, i will leave you with your ides Cheers !

I completely agree with jjwright85, the sites which are on top now must have done some huge marketing. If you check their backlinks you will notice that they too have used the SEO off-page optimization techniques to increase their traffic (readers).
Very nice post. Now I`m translating it to Russian to publish and my russian blog. Can you, please, explain me, what it means. What is server side rewrites? I have a server, and I make rewrites there? So is it authomatical rewrite to produce uniq articles? They will be bad readable, and users will not read them. Am I right?
