@shinan: Better background, thanks. The header is the only thing we really need to focus on here. First, completely remove the member login. Second, I would make the navigation and logo the header and nothing else. The pink and orange display, on its own, doesn't work.

@LsDesign: Thank you for your design. The overall concept is too basic.

 

IMPORTANT

I've noticed that the last two submissions have the logo right in the middle of the navigation. The navigation is going to be dynamic, so it is very important that the logo is either on the left or right side of the navigation. Also, you are welcome to try a header that is independent of the navigation. I just don't care for headers that just have colors and nothing else. You are welcome to go to Google images and type in LDS or Mormon and see if there are images that might work in the header (or as icons in the three boxes). Hope this helps. ~Paul

Thanks for your work so far everyone.

It's surprising to hear that some people won't enter the contest because of the religious nature. To each their own.

http://www.blogcatalog.com - I like how the top banner is not very tall and the navigation is blended. I don't care if you change the colors or we need to shrink the trumpet a little. This design of this site is too dark though.

The main point of the front page is to:

- Invite people to sign up for the site
- Showcase what members have posted, with photos of most active members of the site
- Show forum postings
- log on (I like to have the username & password logon in the header or right below it)
- Search for new "friends" (look at http://www.match.com/matchus/ even though this isn't a dating site it's a similar idea).

If you didn't figure it out the last post was from the client. I asked her to give more feedback because I didn't think we were capturing exactly what she wanted. I will still be running the contest but she will be giving feedback now and then. If you need clarification please contact me first. ~Paul

@willhaynes: The client still wants me to give the feedback for the contest. She will probably pop in and out giving some ideas and thoughts. Her biggest concern with your design is that it looks too corporate and not enough community. I guess one of the largest struggles is that it just doesn't have the flavor of the culture she is looking for. I will post shortly some images to help you design. As for bleeding the three boxes into the header, original, but it doesn't quite work. I would still keep them a part of the main body.

@jokomamamita: Thank you for your entry. This looks good but needs some more of the Mormon culture which I will post shortly. Also, you have too much orange. I would give the navigation some more color and add other colors into the theme.

@shinan: I like the username and password. It definitely doesn't look so prominent as what you had before. As stated with the other two designers there needs to be more of the Mormon culture in the design. I will post some ideas shortly. Thanks for your continual updates on your submissions.

@bizzard: I really like how you separated out the tagline from the graphic in the image. It definitely helps with the header. I think if you were to make some icons out of the images I just posted and add them in the three boxes you might have what the client is looking for. Below are some suggestions on what image category would work best in each box. Let me know if you have any questions. ~Paul

ok, here is my entry or what I have to start off with. I tried to include some imagery of the Mormon or LDS Culture. I have the main Temple from salt Lake in the header .
For Bloggers , I put the Angel Moroni as I think he was the one that wrote the Golden Plates, so Blogging, like writing.
For readers I used the Book of Mormon.
And For Community I used a Bee Hive as this is representative of a community for Bees and a large part of the LDS culture.
Community, not individuality, created this persistent symbol.
The Deseret News (Oct. 11, 1881)
