I'm new at AdWords but I guess 60% bounce rate from content clicks is not normal? From what I've read I should: 1. Revise the keyword and placement so it target correct market. 2. Revise on the landing page/site itself so people want to stay longer. 3. Revise the ads so it's not misleading Which I'm working on right now. What other thing I can do to reduce the bounce rate? Suggestions? Also comparing content clicks and search clicks which one is better?
You will get low CTR, high bounce rate, and low conversion rates with the content network - BUT the content network has its own QS so the low CTR won't affect your search QS badly, and the cpc is susally very cheap. Search clicks are a lot more valuable - they cost more, but conversions are better, CTR is better, and you get a lot more clicks / sales this way. This is going to sound like a complete blanket statement and may draw some derision, but the content network is pretty rubbish - I have spent quite a bit of time on it in the past trying various things out, but it's always going to be less profitable so I now spend very little time on it at all
Try this.... 1. Get 2 Gmail accounts. 2. Send yourself an email to the other Gmail account with all the keywords you want to target for your content network campaign. Then reply back to yourself with another email with some BS. Whatever. Just reply. 3. Now read the email from the account it got sent to. Once you've opened the email have a look at the ads that are showing (on the right hand side). 4. Then AFTER a period of about 2-4 weeks go back a read one of these emails and see what ads are showing up on the right hand side. Take particular note of the ads that show up consistently during this time. These are your competitors. 5. Once you have a short-list of ads that are still there then this is a good indicator that these advertisers are making money. Study their ads, landing pages, and sales/pitch pages. Use these as the basis and platform to improve your trash... uh, I mean stuff. Doing it this way you're not guessing and flailing in the dark hoping to succeeed. You're using professionals who know what they're doing (or appear to be) and using their expense and experience to cash in and save yourself time and money. You can pay me later when you start making money from this. I can wait.
