HaHa ! Shadow. I am one of the X-Men that are resourceful and I learn/adapt easily. :D I have taught a few of your editors some SEO and their sites have become successful some even don't have a DMOZ listing yet their doing good on their keyword search term on SE.

As for site promotion. There are a lot of other means to do it. A DMOZ listing alone won't make or break it. Quality backlinks are the way to go for promotion. Avoid bad neighborhood links.

    ;)

My views are also my own and don't represent ODP or anyone else.

    Your web design sucks.
Get rid of the black background and the multi-colored fonts.
I am surprised you are not accused of spamming with the number of times 'pedal' or 'pedal car' is seen.

pedalcarsplus.com is just another on-line catalog selling stuff.
No 'real' content which could so easily be included:
history of pedal cars, how they work, how to maintain, pedal-cars and the famous, information on rallies, clubs in your area, manufacturers, what to look for when buying pre-owned, price-guides and so on.

There is now visitor interaction. Except for the wanted-ads and some of them are dated way back to 2005. What a prime subject for a forum, guest image gallery.

Useful content and interaction will attract and keep visitors. It is also what ODP is looking for. (my opinion)

Web design doesn't or at least should not concern the ODP editors
this site can potentially be accepted
Same goes for keyword stuffing, ODP is not a search engine
that is the concern of search engines if it can influence their index algorithm

You would think that with six years of practice you would have been able to write your title as recommended by DMOZ or did you not bother to read the instructions during these six years?

It might be thought ugly by some but it's not actively user hostile. There's nothing in the site design to prevent a listing.

Actually i listed a few sites myself with a really sucking design. :D
Design have no effect on a DMOZ listing so any new editor that base one of their judgment on designs needs to learn or else you'll get my wrath with execution. :D(Shoot ! Is this Popo talking ?)

There are a lot of Websites like this listed. ;)

It's not a case of being thought ugly. Sometime the truth hurts - it is ugly.

I would suggest that your problem is not the lack of a DMOZ entry. What you need to do is get your site redesigned by a professional designer. You have the product and the history but you need to get a better site up and running.

I am sorry but your site looks like it was built by an absolute amateur in 1998. Do yourself a favour and have it redesigned and optimised. I could almost guarantee that you will see a full ROI within a few weeks of doing so.

You quoted a Meta editor saying that the site may be ugly then go on to say that the site should be professionally redone, completely ignoring this part...

There's nothing in the site design to prevent a listing.

Now come on, with thousands of sites listed from homepage sites like Geocities and Angelfire tell me that there really is an issue with site design...

OK, here it comes again ... there is an issue with site design.

I was offering good, independent advice to the OP. The problem is not DMOZ. His/her website needs to be redesigned. Do you disagree?

Yes I disagree. Site design is secondary, at least according to a meta editor and the ODP guidelines.

However, it would likely be in his/her best interest in any other circumstance.

I did not say that the site had to be nice to get in DMOZ. As an editor I know what is required there. I was merely suggesting that the OP had more problems than the lack of a DMOZ entry. I thought I had already explained this but you are of course entitled to disagree with me.

I do not disagree at all if that is/was your point. Though it didn't really seem to be in your above posts, as you said it needed to be redesigned and said nothing about it still be listable while still being ugly as rainbow vomit ;)

    So sorry if I misunderstood.

If you have submitted in the last 12 months, you do not have to submit again, it is likely in a Q and if you submit again all you do is change the datestamp and put it to the bottom of the Q, so you waste your time. There is nothing more that you can do if you have submitted in the last 12 months so go and promote your site elsewhere. It can take a few minutes to several years to get reviewed. You will not be told if it is rejected or accepted, so as I say you have done what you can by offering the site, go away and forget it and maybe you will get an early Christmas present one day.

If your suggestion is done during 2007 there is nothing more to do about it. :D

In Hollywood, new or rising actors and actresses would give everything for exposures to the extent of but are not limited to:
    yes man
    the echoing effect.
    kiss the behind
the good things about my boss

Children, children, children. Come on now, in terms of the site design - there's nothing wrong with it, especially looking at some ODP listed sites.

"I could almost guarantee that you will see a full ROI within a few weeks of doing so." - How many people in the world do you think look to buy pedal cars? A few weeks? Maybe your web design prices really are based on 1998's prices;)

Why do you keep going on about that? It's NOT the site design!

    Even by your own admission...

Now scroll up and count your posts in this thread about it... from the sounds of things, you are an editor, you don't like the design, and that is why it's not getting a listing. If that's not the case, then why carry on like you are over the design of the site?
