I have been involved with Twitter for about three weeks and I have got almost 300 followers. I did two tests so far to try to get a response from my 'followers' with absolutely NO results. I am not your average guy if you are wondering. I am looking for percentages...you know 3% conversion or whatever. I have had no results so far other than more 'followers'. Twitter is the new "fad".

To be clear, I have tried very hard to follow people closely associated with my niche while blocking those that do not fit with what I do online.

 

I have a little over thousand followers and it seems to do well with my blog posts, I get a lot of feedback so I know they are reading and responding....

 

I agree that CONTENT itself is the MAIN factor why 1st time readers keep on returning to a website. =)

I like your point no 3 "You’re popular over the net. Meaning you’re some kind of celebrity outside Twitter.com"
So I am not celebrity, like Oprah, but have no choice and try out twitter

 

Reason number 5 : You’re using an application which automatically follows an user after they follow you

If some of you are using this option there is a disadvantage. You always want to follow people within your niche and hopefully they follow you. Now here comes a spammer or obscene user following you, then with the app you will be following him.

 

Still, thousands of Twitter users do so to increase their followers count.
