    I totally agree, you don't want to sacrifice to much of the site design and make it looks shitty just for an ad. But sometimes you have to a little to make more money.

    This will lead your account to ban. You should at least put a separator between images and ads.

    As I have never tried this before but I would like to know of how should we differentiate between pictures on google that are protected by copyright and the ones which are royalty free?

    I'm not sure, correct me if I wrong but I think Abhik is right. You can put images near ads, but dont blend ads and images, this will make people click on ads because they see images not the ads itself.

    Honestly, for safety I never use this method.

    Come on, quit parroting information that is incorrect in the absolute sense. It is not ALWAYS against TOS (or, rather, the new Policies) to place images near the ads.) Check with Google if you have a situation where they are near, and if you're not just trying to draw attention to the ads, they may allow it.

    I am not sure that if all these things work for everyone and every website. Personally I would say test-test-test; each website is different and you have to find what works for you.
