6 months gone BUT....where are the results?

I don't know if i am on good way or bad but it's not really good.
6 months back i started a website: http://www.mmgurl.com (MMG URL). It's a service just like tinyurl but better with some new features like user can create custom url or a password protected url. Designers and programmers can simply create password protected urls to only give access to their clients. Custom url is to make url with your own choice.

When i started promoting it i was getting 100-200 unique visitors. Started with 0 urls and here's the current stats.

Getting 200-400 unique visitors daily but no clicks on google ads. Total 5900 urls been made and 25,000+ redirection are performing each day. I don't show ads on redirect pages just have on main index page.

What others have said is that it's a good service and even better than tinyurl and all others but i dont see many webmasters using it. Maybe they don't know about it or something else.

I even made some banners for it to promote:

My question is how to promote it well to make some money from my index page(google ads)? Is my website doing good or not?

Or is there any advice? Or if you can do something like place link on your website/blog or something?

I shall be very thankfull to you.

alot of the uniques is probably people clicking the redirect url. Ie people advertise http://www.mmgurl.com/url and when someone clicks it, it will count as a unique but it wont see your ads or anything.

Actually you are right. But what i see in the stats of my site.

25,000+ visits on 5900+ urls every day. But in my web hosting stats i see only 200-400 uniques every day. This is even true that i don't show ads on redirected pages but if 200-400 are coming direct on my main page then i should make $1 or $5 each day but NO :(

Even clicks are like 1,2,3 but these are high paying keywords so i make .50+ on every click.

try putting your entire page centered. Your top google ad is centered and the rest of the page is aligned left. Make it all the same. you have a nice looking site, but im going to agree with KillaKlown, its users clicking on other peoples urls thats where your visits are coming from.

I've seen some sites show an ad or website for 5-10 seconds before sending you to the actual site. I think adbrite does it and maybe fastclick too. 25000 ad impressions a day would be pretty good money if you could make that work. You could also use that to promote your own site if there are no ads available.

Ye i think i will implement this idea soon. Actually i wanted not to put any ads and maybe i see little bit more how it goes. Just now going to link exchange with some good webmaster related sites.

This may be a good idea, I think something along the lines of what proxy websites have but smaller (browse a website with this proxy to see what I mean). Perhaps you should limit that to display only once per visitor per 24 hours, maybe even less than that.

You should be targeting people who build websites that require systems like this, perhaps do a targeted ad campaign on one of the many free hosts? Browse through adbrite for any webmaster targeted websites, they should convert well. All you want to do really is build up the amount of traffic to the homepage. Why dont you add more content pages like "Compare URL Redirection Services", "What are the benefits?" and so on.

You wont be able to place adsense on any of the redirection links or anything, at least if you run a similiar setup to the above proxy website. The suggestion about making people view ads before directing is interesting, but I can bet that a lot of people wont bother waiting.. especially since most free redirecting services dont direct to high quality pages anyway. Try adbrite or adengage to make money off the other pages though.

I think you would be better using CPM, payment based on impressions instead of clicks.

Drop the adsense and have ad's for a related service or product that would be good for your target user demographic.

    Think of http://megaupload.com/
They have a counter time down till the download becomes available. You could do something similar and have a dhtml window like they do with ads/offers. Megaupload Links window..

Try CPM block/square ads that don't have popups.

To ensure the visitor is real you could also make them enter a CAPTCHA image code.

Don't rely on stats based on servers web logs - they will be incorrect as others stated. Get extreme dm (nice third party stats free) on your pages so you know what your site is actually getting

You'd indeed want CPM ads since most people who'll use your services (well i'd guess a lot will use it to hide and shorten their affiliate links)...so these people aren't going to click on your ads...you really want CPM..

Do you have a mailing list? The mailing list will also help you to promote other products etc...and you can easily make a mailing list with such website.

Your adsense ads aren't even relevant...have you tried section targetting? you might want to bold your keywords...that might serve some relevant ads if you choose to stick with adsense but you're better off with CPMs IMO....

Maybe you could change the link colour to black so it blends more? try it...

You could also ad your horizontal half banner between "enter your URL here" and "Shrink It"...it'll yield more clicks...

You'd also want to do a LOT of promotions ;)

    Goodluck!

It's a big secret :p not really much.

Now i have changed the google ads positions but i like the idea of CPM and to show ads when visitor clicks on the shortern link.

    Thank you all....

I know, that’s crazy. I was selling Gmail accounts on eBay back when the invites were pretty scarce.
