I have 6 keywords at number 1 in google. I have another 5 or 6 in the top 5, I have a new design, am I taking a risk if I use the new design?

If I put the new design out, it has more php content than the other. The text content will basically be the same but the page set ups are different. How will the s.engines look at this. Is there any penalties that could occur. Maybe it likes my site the way it is. I need to move forward and I think it needs a new look, but I dont want to lose my positions. Hope that makes sense, I am a little stupid with these things.

hey, that's not stupid! everybody needs some kind of information.

ok, so you want to change your layout to a new one, and the text etc stays the same...

IMHO, if you stay tableless and well coded there's no problem. but dont change your contents!

Anyway, hope some expert can help you on this one!

    good luck!

Without seeing both designs its hard to say. As long as the new one is well designed then you will be OK.

all depends if the keywords you are top for are worth it, do they bring in a lot of visitors or are they keywords that only a few people use?

depending on your old site design, a new design could also help you rank better. for e.g. if you was changing your design from <tables> (extra codes = slower page loading time + unneeded code indexed by SE's) to CSS (smaller pages = less junk for SE's to index = better overall code 2 text ratio)
