I still have hopes that I will get by DB and site back some how. The rest of it (money, time, and hosting) I could care very little about. I just want my data. We did a bunch of work on the site over the weekend (2 days) and did not backup the data since the changes were made since we were waiting to be completely done before backing it up. I just want a backup of my info...simple as that. I can walk away ok with this if I can get that backup.

Why have I not given up on this? Because it has just been 24 hours since it happened. I have owned a good sized hosting company and know that in situations like this, its not extremely easy to get everything back up without leaving servers vulnerable to the same situation. It took me 3 days to get all my servers properly secured once when we had a similar situation. Of course, we kept in much better contact with our clients and gave them a prorated refund for the 3 days of down time (as per our TOS).

Anyway...hoping for the best because the server(s) have not been down that long.

The servers are gone and he said most of them were messed up. He only does backup on Friday morning, so if you did all the work during the weekend than I would suggest you to move on.

very well. its my time to waste on pursuing this, so I will continue to "waste it".

I have not heard a single thing of this from the provider themselves.

Since he is based in the US, its actually against the law to conduct business in this manner. I will be contacting a lawyer friend of mine tomorrow (its a holiday here in the states today) if I have not had this resolved. He has shown in the past to pursue litigation if necessary for a very minimal fee for me. :)

Anyway...the other point to all of this is that it is not ok to conduct business this way, no matter what the circumstance. If he chooses to make this right with me, then I will have no issues with him and will walk away learning from the experience. But if he chooses to ignore me, my refund and getting my access to my server or get me my data...then their is a lesson for him to learn in this and it may have to come the hard way, via litigation. Their is a record of the transaction via paypal, so tracking the purchase is not an issue to prove. Screen shot and dns info should easily prove the lack of server.

I will leave this alone when I have my data/refund and it has been made right by the owner. Otherwise, it is straight up business fraud and is punishable by a very large fine and possibly jail time.

PS - the site I need the data on is I am Blazers . com - a site I was hired to put together and setup via VPS solution. If anyone is in contact with him, you might let him know that I am serious about this. Make it right...

He paid SingleHop $75 an HOUR? WOW! Why didn't he hire someone for $3,000 a month or probably $100-150 a day locally? He could have also got server management by paying $xx extra to SingleHop or some other company monthly. But anyway, R.I.P Your1Hoster.

Sorry for everyone who got ripped off. Next time don't believe such too good to be true offers. (I was going to buy it too! But luckily didn't fall for this rip off).

    Regards,
    Monty

If anyone still need a VPS, you can use VPS25 when ordering with us. It is less then Y1H but we have secured our servers against hacking with programs like APF to configurate our firewall, BFD (Brute Force Detection), etc..
