6 1/2 year old music site with $350+ monthly revenue

I'm selling the first site I ever made due to loss of health insurance and to launch a new project I've been working on for 8 months. This is not the usual pump and dump site you normally see for sale. This is a very well respected member of the lyrics community that is listed in the DMOZ and Yahoo directories. Unfortunately, there are no stats on the server, but from the site earnings I estimate the traffic to be about 3000 uniques per day. There is no admin panel as the site is built from text files and templates creating over 120,000 static pages. This is a long-standing site that once held the #1 position for the term "song lyrics" for over a year. It is still listed in the top 20 most of the time and is currently ranked #11 for the term "song lyrics". It could very easily be returned to it's old rank with some updating and TLC. I haven't done any work on this site in over 2 years and it still earns me a consistent $350 per month. Really all the site needs is an updated song database and a fresh round of link building to return it to its previous position and I can say that a position in the top 3 generates well over $2000 dollars per month in revenue.

    Site Stats

There are several other revenue streams in place(amazon, allposters, mediaplazza, targetwords) but at the current traffic levels they don't produce much revenue.

I will help the new owner to convert the site over to a php database driven site to allow for easier updating.

Now for the asking price. I will go with $300 per month for the current revenue. The Coop space could easily be rented for another $400 per month. That puts the opening bid at $700 x 8 = $5600. Auction will end June 15th at 6pm est. I have a reserve price in mind and if it not met I retain the right not to sell. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to pm me or ask them here.

    Starting Bid: $5,600

    BIN: $10,000

Wow. Over 19,000 pages indexed in Google.

Design needs some work and it definitely needs to be database driven. The trick there would be to make sure that the existing pages that are indexed do not change names.

Wish I had the money and time for this.

    Good luck with the sale.

Thanks for the compliments. I already have a plan in mind to redo the site and keep the existing pages indexed with php and mod rewrite. The page naming I used when I first built the site was very basic so it would be no problem to convert it over to be db driven.

Thanks for the comments. I know $5,600 is a high starting bid, but I also know for a fact that it could easily be made back in 6 months with no problem. This is a very strong site that is just in need of some updating.

Can you explain this. How does that work.

"The Coop space could easily be rented for another $400 per month."

And please show the Google stats. Google will not pay as much as that Yahoo ads stats.

I have added the current google stats for june and the site has already earned $100 for the first 10 days. The coop space I mentioned is the 5 links below the footer on the site. It is the Digital Point Coop Advertsing Network. If you do a search on this forum for coop you will find all the info you need. The 50,000 in coop weight could easily be rented for $400 per month. If you have any more questions feel free to ask them here or pm me. Thanks for the interest.

I really could not find out about the coop, can you explain how we get involved in that?Im actually not sure I want to as looking throug the posts there seems to be nothing but hassle from people complaining about it.
I think you should reconsider you asking price as our monthly revenue is only $300 as I cant see how you can use he coop thing? Just my opinion, sure you or others may disagree, but if you lower it I may be interestred

Basically the way the coop works is you place php code at the bottom of your pages and 5 text links will appear from other sites in the ad network. As your site displays ads, your ads appear on other sites within the network. The more weight a site has the more ads are placed on other sites. It's kind of like a banner exchange but with plain text links instead. The coop FAQ is here. Let me know if you have any more questions or pm me your offer. Thanks!

I've had a few people voice concerns throuh pm about including potential revenue from renting the coop ad space. So, I've decided to lower the starting bid to $3,400 and the bin to $5,000. To keep things simple, lets make it $50 increments. This really is a steal and I hate to let it go for this price, but I really need the funds to launch a new site.

    Starting Bid: $3,400

Give me a couple of hours while I get my kids to bed and I'll see what stats I can pull from the server. It's on a crappy dedicated server that doesn't have any stats programs installed on it. I will see if I can pull down the apache log files or something else. The last full song update the site received was probably about 2 years ago, but if you do a search on this forum for "lyrics" there are several people selling up-to-date lyrics dbs for $10. None of the incoming links are paid. They are all link exchanges set up back in 2000 before all the webmasters got so jaded about swapping links. Let me know If you have any more questions.

Right now there is no admin panel to add content to the site. I will convert the site over to be php db driven with a successful sale. I estimate the traffic to be about 2,500-3,000 uniques per day. At the request of several interested parties, I have added extremetracking to the site so everyone can view the stats.

    Traffic Stats

I have recieved a valid offer via pm for $3,400 so if anyone else is interested please post your offer here. Thanks!
