my main site- mostly humor, funny pics, etc, has 5000+ uniques a day, with 13,000 page views per day. I am thinking of putting from 1-3 standard half size banner ads (234 x 60) in the upper left spot. Does anyone have a guess what I might be able to ask per banner ad there per week or month? Is anyone interested in taking a look and making an offer? (pm for url). Thanks! Cafiner.
depends on the topic of your site and how how focused the type of users that come. Do they arrive then just bounce off or what? In my experience I get around 1-5 clicks per 100 users when my ad is highly on topic and visible so this could drive considerable traffic to a site. Honestly what would likely be your best course would be to create a couple sites with products and make money off of these. You could also look into an affiliate program.
Just an update- I was trying adbrite in that spot for a while and getting less than $1 a day. I changed the demographic option from "Mostly Men" to "mostly women" as an experiment and my earnings went up to $5 or $6 per day for that spot. This is with CPM ads, which EXE suggested above. So, that's probably as well or better than i could do with banners there, so I'll leave it as is for a while and see if it continues. Thanks to everyone who offered feedback.
well you could probably do better with banners if you find the write market to buy these ads from you more details on site stats CTR impressions etc might help us
Mostly Men or Mostly Women is not a demographic as such. If you are able to provide more precise demographics then you will be able to determine a market rate for a half-banner. For example running a poll to get a breakdown of the audience could bring in a much greater understanding of who is actually visiting the site and if they are regular. demographic would provide a breakdown of the audience makeup: Very brief example of what I mean: 40% are male 16-24 and comic book fans 30% are female 21-30 and fashion chasers 25% are male over35 with $50,000+ disposable household income 5% are robots, no income, no lifers trawling the internet 24/7 in search of knowledge that can be used and misrepresented to meet their owners objectives By getting the demographic you can state this for advertisers looking for sites. You can solicit direct advertising of $500 per advert per month (or more depending entirely on site content/repeat visitors etc). However, it will depend on the right advertiser being found and for your visitors to provide the desired demographic.
