~5000 uniques/day - hosting?

    Hi,

I have a site with up to 5000 uniques per day. The site is completely PHP and database driven. Now I'm looking for a new web host for some reasons.
For a few days now, I think about going with Dreamhost (crazy domain insane). I think the features for domain hosting etc. are great. But today I read about some limitations with CPU minutes and so, and now I don't now if my site is maybe to large.
    What would you suggest?

eventually you're going to need to upgrade from cheap hosting (the 9$ a month stuff) to either a virtual private server or a dedicated server. they cost more, but the advantage (at least with dedicated) is that you own the entire server-- yours sites will be on there, no one else's. they tend to be more expensive, but in the long term it's probably something to consider.

www.servermatrix.com has some really great starter prices for managed dedicated hosting

I think a site such as that would fit just fine. They are made to handle such sites. If you do go with Dreamhost and you want a discount, use the code WEBPROMOS and it will save you some money -- fyi. I don't think Dreamhost would limit your site so much that it would break it.

Update: We drive less than 5,000 uniques/day but serve a lot more impressions. We went dedicated and we're moving to a managed solution soon simply because we have so many sites on the network that we needed more control.

Hmm, dedicated would indeed be great, but I think I don't want to spend so much money, at least not yet...

do it, any shared hosting company can't wait to get rid of you around 2500 uniques, espeicially if your site is php / mysql driven you might save yourself a lot of headaches if you go straight to dedi or vps

I'm on a dedicated for the quality and speed. I only use like MAYBE 10% of my monthly resources. But it's worth the money. You dont share a box with a bunch of A-holes that bogg everything down. All yours sites will be really fast and never get bogged down.

Dreamhost took my whole account down(disabled all my domains) because I was making a sitemap(about 15-20 crawlers) of my dead old vbulletin(about 20,000 posts) that I transferred in that account. They said I was using too much CPU resources, and I should get my own server. So, I also suggest that you just get a dedicated server or a vps, because Dreamhost won't let you use much CPU usage, especially your site is completely PHP and database driven.

don't go for an account on a shared server.... go for a VPS or a dedicated server. if tou are good and like to configure a server, get a dedicated, else get a managed VPS and you'll have time to focus on more important things...

it's clear, VPS and dedicated are more expensive, but it's quality that matters the most...
