$500 to start fresh. What to do oh what to do?

I have just under $500 in a paypal account after selling my one and only website (it was a forum). Now I am ready to start something new but I can't think what to do. My main goal is to make money (obviously, else I wouldn't be here) from whatever project I start but not necessarily looking for a quick buck.

Can anyone suggest the best way to put this money to good use?

    Thanks for your help.

I am assuming you like to create another website.

Maybe an e-commerce perhaps? Though i think you need more than $500.

You don't need more than 500$ to create an e-commerce website. Have a think about it, don't rush into it because you have that amount in your account something will come with time.

I would spend up up to a hundred making a good site, and the rest on advertising. I would follow Students-forum's advice. Don't rush into something just because you have the money. From experience, I have to say it is one of the worst things you can do.

You can go into the domain business and start blogging. No big investments only hard work.

With $500 you could buy several AdSense websites earning around a dollar a day, work with them a little to increase revenue but just let them sit their earning you money for the rest of time. You'll get your $500 back in a few months time, at which point you can repeat the process and build up a nice income.

"Know what you sell, sell what you know"

Regardless of whether or not you're selling or simply developing a site, follow this advice.

I think everyone nowadays that are getting into the web building want to generate revenue from their forums. Maybe try and keep 400$ and send 100$ on the essentials for the site.

I really like forums and blogs. I am considering the whole proxy thing as it sounds like there is decent money there. I'm not sure I understand what you guys are referring to when you talk of e-commerce websites though. Is that just reselling ebooks and stuff?

I really want to start from scratch. Like I said, I am not looking to make a quick buck. I want something that I know is my own and can develop into a solid income in time.

I would like to be making at least around $500 a month within the next 2 years. Is that achievable? On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the hardest, how hard would you say that goal is?

$500 a month within 2 years I would scale from 1 to 10 like "1" or even "0" Sure you will do it. Aim for more. Even if you fail you'll still earn more than $500 a month. That's key.

Pick a niche. Create a portal around that niche. Use SEO/Advertise it.

im thinking of this story telling forum where a member starts off the first few words of the story, then other members can contribute the next few lines and then the next set of lines and so on and so forth until a full story is written. each board in the forum will be for different categories such as romance, horror, fantasy etc.

anyone know if such a site already exists or if this is even a good idea? please comment.

$500 isn't a lot of money. I would recommend that you start a new forum and hope to sell it for more. Buy a vBulletin license for $160 and pay someone $100 to design a custom skin.
