You could also spend $49 a month and get premium membership at SEOMoz, those guys know what they are talking about and their track record is pretty good.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I have already spent a little on directories without any noticeable effect, though saying that I think I might give Yahoo a try.

But ideally I would really like an investment which does not require an annual fee as yahoo does.a

I am no SEO expert but I think I have done what I can to my site and I have got some half decent results in the SERPS with most of my keywords on the first page of Google.

I guess I am just a little worried about hiring an 'SEO expert' who will do little or nothing that I already know myself.

So I guess my dilemma is do I:

    (a) Save up and spent the money on a good SEO person to fix up the site and help
    (b) Spend the money on Yahoo and some other links which I can get myself.

Does anyone know any half decent SEO people who have examples of their work and would be able to do some work for a maximum of $1000?

    Thanks again.

I will create a article section on my site and add 50 articles on the relevant topic to make G understand that my site has the most information on that topic. Most of my primary keywords will be used in the articles and will be linking internally to various pages of my site. I will spend the rest amount to a few good links in the form of article directories (not article submission) and contextual blog posts pointing to the article section of my site.

My advice is, get your on-site seo sorted out first, I do paid checks for seo reports on your website, see the link below but there is no point in spending money on links when the on-site stuff isn't correct. You can get very high on google with a few back links and your on-site seo correctly sorted out, I have done it several times for many clients for medium competetitve keywords. When you get links, my advice is to start with a large directory submission, just to get the numbers up then get some high quality links in with targeted keyword text.

I agree with this reply. $500 won't get you an expensive backlink campaign, but it may buy you an onsite optimization from someone qualified.

Focus on quality links with solid on-page SEO. Its not number of links that count or really even if they are themed or not.

Look at me for example, im beating SEOmoz for the term "SEO" and around top 25 for the term with less than %10 of their link count and virtually no SEO themed links. You really dont have to spend alot.

Spend it on high-quality web directories, that do have good content, and also purchase permanent blog posts, write them yourself and include a link on the blog post linking to your web site.

Well linkbuilding that will be my bet, some footer links especially for some high pr websites, of course it might cost a bomb, but worth it i suppose:D
