LOL - hey Vic be nice ... ;)

I'd buy backlinks - i see that you are around pos 10 or so on google - get some good quality links, theme related - business / accountant / insurance / style and within a few months you'll be on no.1

I would spend it in submitting to high quality directories.

I cant imagine anyone (other than directory owners) saying that spending your SEO budget on directory listings is a good idea. Its only a matter of time before a lot of directories are discounted by google completely. What do directories offer to end users? Absolutely nothing. If you need to find a website for something, do you go on a directory and look for it? Of course not, you use a search engine. I know directory owners will post and make up some excuses, but the sole reason all these directories exist is to sell links and PR.

Anyone working on SEO should forget directories altogether, and start building backlinks, and make sure their own pages are as optimized as possible.

I couldnt agree more Vic, and its quite amusing the last two who suggested the idea have directory links in their signatures.

If i was Google i would devalue them as well, especially their passing of pagerank. They offer little value to the user, and are basically a repository for webmasters to pile links in attempt to game the SERPs and gain PageRank.

One half on someone qualified to do onsite SEO, the other half for links. Preferably links various anchor texts from a large number of different sites. I would not put all the money on just a couple of quality links for the reason that Google is becoming more aggressive in weeding out paid links.

I would buy 5 PR6 links from me GotLinks at 100.00 each per year! I guarantee with these you will be a PR5 by the next update!

Theres a big difference with getting yourself pr5 and getting yourself ranked better in search engines, though most people (falsely) believe this is the same thing!

Why? The thread is about search engine optimisation. If you want to rank well and make sales or get visitors to your site - improve your serps. If you want to sell text links or game the PR system - increase the PR of your site. Two completely different aims, and both achieved in completely different ways.

Simply spend $500 on onpage and offpage optimization by buying blogposts and relevent links to your niche.

I'm sorry, but that's not the whole truth. PR is a part of ranking in Google. No matter how much you dislike it, they still use PR. SERPs depend on many factors, but PageRank is one of them. You are wrong to claim that they are "[t]wo completely different aims."

PR itself plays (in my opinion) a tiny part. I guess thats the beauty of SEO, everyone has an opinion and its very hard to work out who is correct and who is not. But I think your advice to spend all of the budget purely on increasing PR, is an extremely naive move and a waste of money.

Is this car going to drive up the google rankings or something? What a waste of bandwidth...
