My new site now has around 500 pages indexed by google. Analytics says ~20 visitors are from Google organic. My website is about tutorials articles. Is this normal? Or I need to do more key word optimization?
The real question here is how well do your keywords perform? Have you used the keyword tool on this site to look at how you rank when each is searched for? If not you could have all 500+ pages indexed, but never appear above position 200 - so it will be very difficult to get any hits as I am sure no-one wastes their time looking this deep in search results. My customers struggle to get past the first page of results! If your keywords are well positioned maybe people are not actually searching for those words? If the keywords return poor results than you could have hit a very competetive area, and so have many well established competitors doing better than you - try looking for a wider variety of keywords to use to get your results up higher. If all else fails you could try adwords and see if this improves your hits, at the least it will show you how many hits the keywords are getting so you can get a better idea of the volume of the potential users.
There are many possible reasons for this - sandbox, crouded niche and bad ranking, good ranking but small niche....
Indexed by google doesn't mean you will rank higher based on keywords. Index and rank are 2 different things, though to rank in google, you have to be indexed. Index is an easy job, but to rank higher for hot keywords is a tough work.
Your page get indexed 500 pages just mean google bot crawl but not mean you can rank highly on your chosen keywords. Why didn't you look at your stats to see how your keywords performed or just type your keywords in google and see its results? All is depend on how competitive of each keywords, If your keywords has been searched 20 a day so it may be easy to optimized with but if your keyword has been searched 5,000+ a day so you need to find more links to get your site ranked well in most search engines, especially Google. 20 uv/day from Google is better than many sites I know.
That´s why some people, like me, target mid keywords: result? 5-7 euros a day and the site just got indexed 2 weeks ago. Now it ranks in page 1 and 2 of google for two diferrent keywords/phrases. I believe it´s better to grow slowly than to go right to the top.
it has no pagerank, appears to be very new, not just "new", next time maybe buy an old domain instead using a new one (just an idea & from experience worth it)
