Where you host? Hostgator? As my opinion, the 500 internal server error have relation with the file permission. Just contact your hosting support and ask them to fix it up. Good luck.
500 Internal errors are server side errors, generally it means there is a problem with the software, you need to contact your host about when you are receiving the error and ask them to upgrade whatever is causing the problem.
may be your php script is causing the error output. It is best to contact the hosting support to get the problem resolved as soon as possible.
Simply..if you use cPanel then active .dot option when you access from file manager then edit .htaccess to .something or...just delete the file.
