Hi guys, I wish to buy an ext. hard (USB) in the capacity range between 500 GB to 1 TB. I've gone through a few reviews online for the following; Seagate FreeAgent Xtreme - 1TB Western Digital My Book - 500 GB Hitachi External Hard Drive - 1TB I'm still unable to decide which one to pick 'coz there are pluses and minuses for each equally like so it's difficult to choose. So guys can you please recommend or place your views and experiences or what other brands are best to consider on external hard drives of large capacities like 500 GB - 1 TB. My criteria is on; > Performance and stability (hate crashing) > Speed (7200 rpm would be really good) > Cache (16 MB to 32 MB) Would really appreciate your comments...
Then pick the fastest one with the larger cache. Simple isn't it? It all depends on what you're using it for. If it's for a backup, then buy on size/price. And buy two of them. If it's for your primary drive, then buy on specs.
You should go for Seagate. I think its better than others. Also its of good quality. - Mr.President -
For Seagate, get the Enterprise SATA version for more stability. Personally I would go for the 500 GB. 1 TB will take an extremely long time to rebuild if it is under Raid.
I may be contradicting everybody else here, but I use a Western Digital external drive, and I have been very pleased with it. I also use an internal drive from WD that has worked well so far.
Go for seagate mate, Western Digital service is not good.. seagate is best in the after sales services ...so go for it ...
I wouldn't use any of the external HDs, like WD passport, etc. What I did was bought a WD 2TB internal hard disk, and also an Antec hard disk enclosure. With that setup, you have both an internal and an external HD. I've heard alot of bad reviews with WD passports with shock damage and slow loading times. Only my 2 cents.
Buy 500 GB hard disk. And when USB 3.0 enabled devices will be released early next year then you can buy 1 TB.. It would be good for you..
