I got this error: Server error! The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. That error came out after I edited the permalink structure on wordpress. I use a custom permalink on a certain page and after I edit it, the server error came out now. I can't log back in to my wordpress. I'm editing it locally on my computer. Is there a way how I recover from this? I googled it and found no instructions how to recover.
Can you still get to the page yoursite/wp-admin or does this page no longer display? This should not have changed with a change in permalink structure or are you getting the error after attempting to login?
I've had that error so many times before! You need some text in your .htaccess-file. Google for something like this: wordpress .htaccess rewriterule
Hello, If your with 1&1 Web Hosting from my experience, if any PHP script handles more than 40mb it messes there servers up. And they won't help you at all. Could be the same with CGI. Other companies may do this to!
I can't open it anymore. anyway, I deleted all the files and installed a new wordpress. I will no longer edit the permalink structure anymore. This happened after I edited it. Thank you all for your help.
You have to make sure you create a blank htaccess file and make sure it is writable before you change your permalinks. That will work for you. Nigel
