The design for http://AllFreelanceWriting.com is being updated (full-size preview below). I need a new logo for it using the new color scheme.

    Site Name for Logo:
All Freelance Writing (not in URL form)

    Slogan to be included:
Your Secret for Freelance Writing Success (this is slightly different than the version on the current site)

Here are some notes on what I do and don't want:

    - It must appeal to an audience of writers (think interesting typography such as magazine headlines).

    - It should also have a slight Web 2.0 feel to it -- tip: I hate see lots of shadows and gradients just because they're easy to throw in -- don't use them unless they really add something of value to the design please.

    - It needs to all fit in the blank space allotted in the image below. -- Well, it should be adaptable to larger uses, but should be scalable to the size needed in the below template (template is about 90% finished, will be slightly different when coded, but will keep that structure and basic color scheme).

    - The winner will be paid by Paypal only. Please do not enter if you don't have a Paypal account.

I've gone through a lot of logos for this site because I'm never really comfortable with them. Normally I'd take it to my go-to guy for logos, but since I struggle with liking anything on this one for long I'm hoping a contest with multiple options will be the best option.

Since we're coming up on a weekend, let's give it until Wednesday of next week for the contest deadline. Have your entries in by Wednesday, March 17th, 5pm Eastern.

    Thanks and good luck!

    Jenn

Thanks. They're nice in that I don't want something involving stock images, but they're still a bit too basic for a brandable logo.

Thanks. Again, it's too simple and not really brandable. I also don't like the text effect on that one -- it gives it a "washed out" appearance instead of grabbing attention. And "Freelance" is spelled wrong. ;)

This is a somewhat edgy blog for its niche. Anything too drab or simple really won't work for our target audience.

Also, in reference to both previous designs, let's not just write the name across. It leaves too much white space above and below. Try to find a more creative way to display it. The current logo for example pulls out the "All" and has it display vertically. You could also make it take two lines. I don't know exactly what's going to work best -- that's why I wanted to let several designers have a stab at it. But I do know it needs to "pop." This logo will be used to brand a variety of things moving forward from a writer's toolbar to an e-book series to free tools we release to future offline promotions and print books. All Freelance Writing is moving from being just a blog to becoming a wider brand.

biruhatu - Definitely much better than the first, but it's still not really anything brandable (and please no generic images like pens, pencils, etc.). I'm OK with the text involving or being surrounded by graphic elements, but no standalone images or generic images, stock images, etc.

drdesigner - The style's a bit too "soft" for us. Like I mentioned, we run a somewhat edgy blog in the niche -- we don't appeal to the "warm and fuzzy" side of the writing crowd. So things like script fonts won't work here.

Thanks for the submissions so far!

Homeblogger -- still much too plain and completely unbrandable.

biruhato -- Can't say I "love" it, but it's the best of the submissions so far. Positioned to the far left of the template I like it even better. But using it would depend on whether or not I could come up with another good use for the added white space it leaves. Overall I like it. :)

biruhato -- I was able to play with the design in a mockup and I found a way to position it and make decent use of the excess white space. If you'll give me your permission, I'd like to email that mockup w/ your logo worked in to my writer team so they can give me their feedback. Let me know.

To everyone else -- if the team likes the logo as much as I do, then I'm going to end the contest early and go with biruhato's last design. It gives me just enough Web 2.0 plus a bit of a classic publishing feel, and it has a brandable layout that will work well on book jackets, the site, etc. So unless I announce otherwise, please don't spend anymore time coming up with ideas. I'll likely end early and buy biruhato's. Thanks for all of the submissions!

Just to give some feedback, it's not bad DrDesigner. But the text effects wash out one of the primary words, they run together a bit on the left, and the slogan's font size issue makes it appear a bit too "busy" overall -- the eye is dragged around to too many things instead of focusing attention. It is an improvement over the last one though. :) As per my last comment though, please don't submit any more, as I'm likely ending this early with one of the current designs submitted.

Actually, since it's coming on the weekend here I might not hear from my writers quickly anyway, so I'm just going to make an executive call on this one and officially close the contest. Thanks for your participation everyone. The winner is biruhato, for the submission in post #11.
