ATF, it's a cool logo, but it wasn't the colors that stopped me. The problem is that I wouldn't be able to use that sphere separate of the name next to it. Visitors wouldn't be able to attribute the shape unless I spend a lot of effort and money branding it. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it just doesn't seem to relate to the rest of the site. A few of the ideas were pretty good, but they weren't unique in the sense that you could feel the logo was made for you, and not for someone else. Unfortunately I needed that logo by the 1st of March, because I had to place an order for a specific design, so it's too late to extend the contest. Thanks to everyone who participated.
People need to understand that they should expect there logos NOT to be picked. I doubt many professional logo designers use this as a way to obtain custom... its just a nice way for people to practice, get constructive feedback and perhaps win and get some cash. If your logos are good then not only will the be picked but you will recieve further business by way of PM.
Thats not the point, the point is that people start these contest saying that there willing to pay for a quality design, and then after a week or more of designers taking the time to submit work the person says junk like " I cant pick a winner " or " The designs dont match my site " . When we know the real objective was just to increase there post count on DP or intentionaly deceive people and rip of designs. If they were serious about it they would look at the designers work then hire that designer to do a piece that is more specific to what there looking for.
True, some people might read it as... 'I don't have 50 bucks to pay anyone now so i'll just not pick one!'. At the end of the day, like Krush mentioned above, most people here do not do these contests for the money, I mean $20, $50 or even $100 for a few good design concepts and endless revisions isn't good money, it's not about the money though it's about practicing your art and having fun. Sure, it's nice when you win a contest and get a reward for your efforts but it's about so much more than that. Saying that, I don't like the idea of not choosing a winner. I think if you start a contest, there should always be a winner - that is, SOMEBODY is going to get rewarded for it. Otherwise, what's to stop me starting a contest now asking for a logo for my own company and thinking 'well if i get something that is better than my current one, i'll use it and pay peanuts for it, but if I don't use it, I won't lose anything'. The people losing out are the designers spending hours on their designs. Ah well, it's a touchy subject I know.
But what about if you get 2 or 3 really naff submissions... I think its fine how it is..... people arn't forced to create these designs....
Yeah I agree it's fine and people know the rules etc. it just seems harsh sometimes - especially leaving the contest open for ages with no intention of paying. But, still, people live and learn from experiences!
You’re almost guaranteed a quality submission when holding a contest on DP unless you have a ridiculously short time frame, and if you do that would be your own fault wouldn't it ! There are a lot of quality designers that respond to most contests held here.
Why did you not just make your own logo insted if you are a web designer and i don't know why people open a contest if there not going to pay thats justs like scamming to me. Just my 2 cents
why people dont say clearly that they choose winner from some other forum...... http://www.namepros.com/296490-req-logo-50-logo-contest-creativite-2.html#post1799237 great CH......lol.....
Haha why not just say he listed the contest on NP also and let DP'ers now that the winner was chosen there? NP has a rule where a winner must be chosen don't they?
Yeah, they do. But so what? My decision was based on quality, not on forum rules. Some of the logo submissions here were interesting but none of them were close to what I was looking for. Why should the contest holder be forced to pay for a design he's not interested in? Would you buy a car that doesn't work? Would you buy a shirt that doesn't look good? Or a painting that doesn't match your furniture? How is this any different? I don't understand your logic. Keep in mind there are tens of design forums out there. Forcing contest holders to choose a winner would make these forums no different from the logo companies that make you pay in advance. Why do you think people avoid going there? Because they don't want to be locked in to an idea they don't like. Does that mean all these people are scammers with bad intentions? So I'm guessing you do all your work yourself? Good luck expanding your business. When people run out of time, they outsource. If you don't understand that, I can only hope you have a day job. Well said. Anyone trying to make a living from this is bound to be disappointed. $50 is a not a lot but half the designs submitted here were hardly worth $20. I don't understand why some people are so upset at me instead of focusing on improving their creativity and designs. I didn't pick a winner from here because I didn't like any of the submissions, and that's all there is to it. Watermark your logos, and try harder to be creative.
I agree, obviously. What I meant is there should be something in place so that both parties are covered. It's not people like yourself who annoy me (you said nothing fit your idea etc. and that is fair enough) but the people who start contests then you never hear from them again. I so hate that.
