HI All I am looking for ideas. to make my Directory better... So I am going to hold a comp.... for the best idea... until the 5th of April 08 The Best idea will get $50 cash in their paypal account.. This is a multi forum post just to let you know.. What I want you to do is look over my Directory and let me know how I can make it better.. I am open to any ideas.. the best idea will win.. - add a flash/ajax thingy where you can "surf" the directory graph - make the colors bolder and text bigger - make the ads less intrusive - make the highlighted site section bigger - make the logo bigger and more obvious - perhaps dont claim to be "brand NEW" - could put people off? - dont include links to empty sections - make some links bigger than others - overall make it less generic and im spent *yes i registered to post this. get a complete makeover for your directory. - directory contains other links, so remove those adsense ads. - News section needs proper designing and position. - Remove that pixel ads. - Put the site of the day section on top - I think seobook is closed, so remove its affiliate banner
- change the design (many directory templates are available) I prefer web 2.0. Use Bold colors. - If possible change directory script too and make it user friendly. - Highlight some links - Remove some Google Ad Boxes (Keep only 1 or 2 in a page) - Put some banner or interactive header - Remove the unwanted and not working links and banners I think that's it !!

Wow, there's like ads everywhere. Blinking, flashing, scrolling - it's more like being at a carnival arcade than a website. Before you even think about redoing the design (something you should do), audit each and every category. I looked at only two and found several listings that were definitely in the wrong place. With one category, only 1 of the 5 belonged in that section. All of your text is hard to read. The font-size is small and the lines are too wide for that small of a font. Listing stats like pending links are good only if you keep your queues fairly clean. Yours isn't too bad at the moment but if it gets too far out of control it will hurt your submission rates. Sitewide footer links are really frowned upon by Google and are not a good idea. I would spend a bit of time on your terms of submission. It has some grammar errors and awkward phrasings. You say on the homepage that the site is new and then on the advertise with us page you say the site was started in 2006?
I have found that your search results are pretty good and relevant. Move the search box from the sidebar to the middle and make it more prominent. People prefer searching to manual browsing the directory. Reduce the width of the page.
Your site looks a bit of spammy with that adsense. Remove the adsense if you want more paid links and it'll look much more professional. Also place an icon near every top category
- remove adsense - hire designer - add more features (alexa, backlink check, or any mods that look different) - seo url... - upgrade new script - put article.
- put some banners - change font size - change font colour - new design - new sections change position - articles
Your text is cramped together and hard to read, try adding some space around the words or making the font size bigger. I like your 'search websites in Link Directory Alphabetically' alphabetically, and it should be at the top where it gets more exposure. You should slow down your 'partners' scroll box because it's way too fast. Your colors don't go too well together, you should change the light blue to a kind of light maroon color. It'll look great with the rest of the site. On your 'read more' pages, it would look good if you right-aligned the list on the left (ID, title, pagerank, description, ect.) and added about 10 px padding to it. Then it'll be easier to see and look better. Your navigation at the top should be bigger, a larger font or some nice images would look good. On the left, the red background of the search is shorter then the red background of the titles. Changing that will make some difference.
HI All Thanks everyone for the great replies.... I have PM a few of you... As this was a multi forum post.. I wanted to get a wider point of view of what people think I should do.. to make the directory better... and have got some great ideas from this thread and the other forums I have posted this in.. I got a super reply in another forum and it looks like that post may be the winner of the $50... but I am still looking for more ideas and will send a few buck here and there to the replies and ideas I like. Here is what I have added to my things to do so far. 1. - Remove Google Adsenses... from the home page 2. - Remove The Pixel Ad Square... ( It was an idea that did not take off ) 3. - Remove The SeoBook Banner in the Footer... ( They stopped selling it now ) 4. - Remove the sub categories... and see if it makes any Difference 5. - Social Bookmark links... will move them more towards the top of the site. 6. - The color Scheme, and site layout... will order a make over.. Soon. 7, - Get a new logo made or make the current one bigger.. 8. - Place an icon near every top category. 9. - Try a new news feed that looks less crowded..
