50% drop in Earnings per click since November

In November my earnings per click were at 8 cents per click, but so
far in January I have averaged 4 cents.

Traffic levels, Impressions and CTR are all comparable. And nothing
major has changed on the site.

At first I thought it might have been a post Christmas bidding dip,
but now I'm beginning to believe it is not, as I just looked at my stats
from last year and I did not experience a similar decline.

What could cause such a decline and is there anything I should be
    doing about it?

It could be smartprizing but this is not certain at all.
& it depends on so many things like advertisers paying
less, or the clicks coming from your site not converting
to enough sales. This is all guess work on my part and
I hope you will be able to find what's the reason of the
    drop in earnings. Good luck

well, if your site is about christmas trees obviously theres not going to be many bids or conderation for advertising that stuff at this time of year.

    Is your product time dependant?

also can you compare to a year previous?

ive seen a decent decrease in eCPM since the holidays, but I expect it this time of year as my industry (travel & outdoor sports) varies with the weather.

ive seen a pretty huge decrease as well. My earnings arnt big anyway but my clicks have dropped from around 15 cents to about 4

Seriously, I would be surprised if there are many niches in google that had only 4 cent bids.

Google should be forced into making it public exactly what their percentage of take is and it should be audited.

what is this smart pricing that everyone is talking about...anyone care to explain it to me? because so far no one seems able to....you get a percentage of what the advertiser pays for thier clicks...

my CTR dropped recently too, from about 10% to 2%, the only change i made was i added two new campaigns/channels for two new websites in Brazil. I think because of their poor performance that they dragged my US site adsense revenue down. I removed the adsense from both sites and hoping this will get me off what i assume is smartpricing and put me back to ads that are more relevent to my site. Also portuguese ads started appearing on my US site, so this dragged my CTR down, not sure how to correct this.

until we know how google split the bidding price, it hard to guess why there is a drop on earning if traffics, impression and CTR are comparable. it might be due to low bidding price..

Probably the advertisers have gone low on your niche.

I have seen a drop since christmas on CTR and earnings per click also.

Working harder for more traffic and clicks yet getting less earnings.

Its a tough business when your main source of income can screw you any which way they like, and answer to nobody.

I believe it was Smart pricing, That's too bad. I was dropped to 3 cents/click , then it went up to 10 cents++ again. Same kind of ads, same site, same traffic.

Consistency is a good thing - better than things going down anyhow.
