Figure Ill throw my 2 cents in here since everyone else is....

On one hand the OP and others have paid for a service and did not receive the product, yet on the other hand it was a voluntary donation, so the gift in return shall and would usually be treated with very little care.

I personally would never donate money to a forum/website/organization with the type of earnings as this one as the owners do not need the money as much as I personally need it, nor would I pay $50 so that under my name I have a custom phrase instead of the regular titles (is it that important?).

So in this case Id just say take it as a bad investment of $50 and dont ever donate money in the future in hopes of actually receiving anything in return other than the "joy of giving"

I agree, i wouldnt donate $50, i doubt shawn really needs it nor would it be of much value to him.

For me $50 is a nice amount.

Actually you are forgetting something, you are not donating the the money to Shawn (he dont need it too) but for the Servers

http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/donate read the full page properly :)

Like you, I don't have the 50 buckaroos to cough up for this purpose.

Actually I find the only important reason for this would be to identify the Digital Point forum staff... One moderator has chosen to use this for moderator identity, I feel that it really helps for that purpose. (no charge to the moderators though)

Doesn't Shawn OWN the servers? :p Or they own him.. so, either way.

I think some people are missing the point.
It's not the custom tag that I am concerned about. What really pisses me off is that I received no recognition from DP, not even a simple email or PM saying "thank you".

Yeh but shawn pays for the servers, and even if the $50 goes towards the servers, shawn has an extra $50 that he didnt need to spend, so wouldnt it be basically just giving to shawn

No, I agree with you a "thank you" would be proper.

One question, and this might make me sound extremely "ignorant", but if he makes $10,000 each month from Adsense, etc, how does he need more money for the servers??

How can a business need donations? Its not as if there are no ads, or they give money to charities

Almost one year later: I, for one, don't need a "Thank you" or a custom title anymore.
What I would like is an explanation on this 1 year old thread.

Hahaha I'm sorry but this is hilarious.
I thought DP had a contact Phone number... or maybe you could try looking up "Shawn" in the chicago phone book.

Yip .... nearly one year on and still not a word from Shawn - no custom tag, no thank you, nothing..... All my emails and PMs gone unanswered.... Basically I don't think he gives a stuff.

I just hope no one else is foolish enough to give him free money :(
