I don't know about don't eat. I think you should eat enough to maintain your energy level, but not eating is going overboard.
I think the main one for me is creating a deadline and I like the idea of using something to make your body think that it has work to do like Pavlov's Dogs hmmm, probably gonna try coffee.
All great advice. Another technique I use is to allow myself a GREAT REWARD for after I complete my assignment. I also write it down and put it in front of me--sometimes by making it my background image on my secondary computer monitor so that it's right in front of me, begging me to earn it. If I see, in BIG writing, "Spend $50 at REI on Anything I Want" or "Open A Cakebread Chardonnay" I get my work done. It does not always have to be expensive, sometimes a warm bubble bath with 45 minutes of relaxation time is more than enough of a motivator.
