The news that Microsoft had finally posted a public beta for its long-awaited, often-delayed Windows Vista brought the usual rush by multitudes who couldn't wait. The rush to install the newest Windows Vista beta is on. But before you take the plunge, here are five things you'll want to think about first. http://www.globalknowledge.com/training/customgo.asp?id=14817&pageid=933
Thanks for the warnings. I expect, though, that most people who install the Beta version to test it out do so mainly for research, to find their way around the new OS. You wouldn't want to rely on beta software for this, after all.
People with very good configuration of their computer system, like their memory and graphics can certainly try testing and enjoy the new beta vista
I generally don't trust betas sometimes they can srew up your computer all together. LIke on e of my old computers that turned on and got stuck on the loading screen. No one could figure out what was wrong. I'll preffer to wait fro the final versions. And let's not forget how they try to collect info from your systems and dome of us with sensitive info on ours computers would prefer no to risk anything. Thank You
Thanks for the heads up. It's always good to know what you're getting yourself into before jumping in heads first. Especially with anything Microsoft.
vista is going to be horrible. just because of all the graphics it needs, talk about a resource heavy OS...
I instaled Vista Beta 2, but it don't want install my internet modem :s So I maked a full white format, and i return to XP But I have been able for see transparence windows etc, it was nice I installed skin on my xp => crystalxp.net
I definiately only install beta operating systems on a machine I don't need for testing my sites. I recommend you do the same.
Once i installed MSN 7 beta, it crashed about a hundred times and everything was running slowly. I prefer not to install a beta OS
I installed the beta not to long ago, and I didn't use it for too long either. Not a big fan of it, and as gastongr said... I also had issues with MSN 7 beta >.<.
Beta OS are never a good idea to do your business with PERIOD! If you want some sort of safety. You should always install OS after Service Pack 1 is released! Service Pack 1 fixes a lot of issues found after the release of the OS. st12
Wine all windows apps. The speed will not be as good, but you can still use them that way. Works great with applications like submitters and editors but not really when playing games.
Yeah, me too. Funny, when I hear all this talk of Windows Betas, I think now might be an excellent time to make the jump to linux. But like you, I wonder how I'll live without Dreamweaver and Photoshop, etc. There are viable alternatives to all of these, and WINE should be of help too. The other benefits are that you get free and legal software, and each time an update comes out, you're not compelled to upgrade with the rest of the pack for dubious 'new features'. Even if you do upgrade, it costs nothing.
i think you would learn some stuff about server administration though if you did switch? maybe i'll free up a partition or something, or use an old hard-drive and give it a test run.
I don't know about that! I'd love to know more about the server side of Linux, but to be honest I've done a couple of Kubuntu installations at home, dual booting with WinXP. My wife and I use the Kubuntu for browsing and word processing, but I'm still using WinXP for web development. I've discovered a couple of free development environments for Linux, though NVU, BlueFish and Quanta. Haven't had a good chance to evaluate them yet, though.
Well I'm hoping even the simple stuff? Like wget? I was so unsure how to do anything with my server lol
Not sure about WGET - I haven't dug too deeply into it so far. I know you can install MySQL and Apache very easily through the repositories, but I'm waiting for a gap in my workload before I can play with these properly! Sucks to be busy!
