Rofl. Cause he likes the sound of his own voice. Someone has to think he has a sexy voice. But anyways there are those out there that are beginners at this and always ask the obvious. Its just like those who ask the obvious questions of Shoemoney on "how do you make money online?". But I like how Shoemoney puts a spin on it. In his blog he has rounds of questions as he calls it and answers most anything and is pretty straight forward and clear. Doesnt dumb down to the public and treats them less then.
I understand that Cutts isn't about to reveal a tremendous amount in these interviews, but seriously. I agree with the majority of the 100 posts ahead of me when I say - you can give us something that is even remotely useful. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes.
SEO is very simple, but your goal is to beat your competitors, not the game in itself. Anyone can tell you what it takes to move up (on webmaster forums I mean), and 90 percent of the people here know what Matt said in that interview. The problem is that these days everyone knows this. Your competitors do as well. You want to get ahead of your competitors, you need to step things up. If you read what Matt writes, then you will not get ahead unless you have some real quality sites, and I mean stuff that has not been done yet, blogs which are so cool to read that people just love to link to them or some amazing new tools. You need to linkbait. You need stuff people will link to on their own if you really want to be successful doing everything in a way that Matt will say "OK, I like what you're doing". I am looking at SERPs these days and can tell you that out of 100 sites up there for the harder keywords, maybe 1 site is doing only what according to Matt would be acceptable. That is the reality. Yes, you will see 300 comments on each of Cutts' post agreeing with him, but none of those people will miss out on opportunities to get some extra push for their sites. I myself know who to ask if I need to get some info. I want info based on other people's experiments. Not hogwash. Matt is not a bad guy, but he is blowing smoke and before you read what he writes, you need to be aware of that and try to do whatever is best for you.
Thanks for the input folks then has been an interesting thread to say the least. The part that seems to have been overlooked is where Matt talked about keyword density. That surely has made some reconsider there opinions on keyword density. After all there are many threads that abound on this forum that discuss keyword density and tools, yet this has been overlooked in this conversation. I wonder if in the rush to judgment, have many failed to glean this little gem that sits among this basic brew of thoughts. You only need to use the keyword 2 or 3 times. I bookmarked the post for that very reason.
Umm, keyword density is nothing new. Professional SEO's have been using it for years. I don't think many have missed it KP
My opinion is based on the fact that I have a vibrant SEO business and I do this day in and day out. While you can get useful information on forums, much of it is not so good. Here is a link to a discussion about authority sites that I use. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=920638
