Can I ask why paid? When most article directories have been affected by the Panda update. We use articlebase.com it is nofollow but these links are indexed in yahoo explorer where as our old 500 articles on ezine have vanished! We have found it adds much more value to your site to add regular content to it, we do this with a blog on our domain that links to inner pages and other sites we have. This is how we have 5 websites all on the first page of google for a search term with 12 million results.
Instead of using that money for that money for a paid site, why not use it to get articles written for you and published? The reason why I ask is because what will a paid one do for you? Why not focus on getting a few articles written and getting them submitted to as many places as possible (to build lots of great backlinks which is great for a ping effect as well).
