5 Min Favour - Need A Table Guru

    Hi,

    After spending 11 hours yesterday I finally managed to get a table the way I want it. :eek:

    But now it makes FF think there is a horizontal scroll on that page. IE renders it perfectly. The HTML validates (yes, finally I started validating pages) - yet not the jscript on there.

    It's in development so I'd rather not post live links. If you think you rule at table formatting and have 5 spare minutes (I'll sort you out with a link if it takes longer or if you impress me regardless of time) please let me know and I'll PM you the file.

    Cheers.

    I cleaned up most of the uglies yesterday; I know it's not the most beautiful html you've seen. The body <td> of the main table are fine but something's fooling FF. It's what yuo get when you combine 4 OsC contribs and add some of your own home grown flavour recipe ingredients.

    Thanks for giving it a go.

    I think it's a FF bug. I have a few pages that do that too. If I hit reload it fixes it. My partner (colleague ;)) has an older version of FF and it looks fine on his.

    I've never had a problem w/ an osc site doing it. That must be annoying!

    Luckily it's just one page. It doesn't affect the lay-out but it will start to annoy me soon hence an attempt to get rid of it. I didn't remember seeing it earlier or in the stock OsC version so assumed I introduced it myself.

    KW suggested absolute width instead of 100% for the body table. I don't really want to fix it but will give it a go to rest my mind...

    Will do, the percentage to absolute didn't fix it.

    Thanks.

    I forgot to try earlier but I have the FF Web Developer toolbar and I just outlined the table cells. Doing that the scroll bar disappears. Very strange. Untick the outline feature and it's back again.

    J.D. Sussed it out.

    This is how it was yesterday:

    <table>
    <tr><td>Returning Login</td><td rowspan="2">No Account</td></tr>
    <tr><td>New Account</td></tr>
    </table>
    Code (markup):
    I put a 3d spacer <tr> below it to push the second one up but that caused the problem. I deleted it (kept the 3d <tr> with 1 x <td>&nbsp;</td>) but now the New Account TD dropped back down again. I want it right below, no gap, the Returning Login <td>. <td valign="top"> doesn't work... What does (apart from a CSS rewrite)?

    Thanks but it's all done. I added another <tr> to bump up the lowered <td>.
