sorry I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I find this contests kind of insulting for designers... and the most funniest thing is that the CH will ask for an unlimited number of revisions
Your right, people offering $5 logo contests or people asking for free logos. Its a joke, and the funny thing is they actually expect people to enter. Thats my view now, though i remember when i started logos, i did probably enter some $5 contests, for experience.
its all about if you are creative enough and connect with the clients ideas, and if you have time to execute them. I will enter if i can bring something creative/new. guess u guys only get creative from thinking about the cash.
what's wrong with my sig. ? I don't want to sell it and I can put whatever I want, but can you tell me what's the relation between my sig and my question?
I do this just for fun believe me, just when I have time... but I mean, how long it's gonna take someone to do a logo (developing the idea, then work on it)? time = money
And thats the problem right there. As long as they do that, the contest holder will always have low priced contests. When in reality a logo design can go from $100 to $500 and up. Doing a $5 dollar logo is like getting slapped in the face. First you have to come up with a good idea, then extracting your idea on to paper (Illustrator/Photoshop what have you). But at the end you gotta blame the guys who are willing to make logos for low ass rates.
Like freebanner. From what I can deduce from his name, he apparently makes banners for free. But hey, I could be totally wrong and his name could be the complete opposite of what he does.
i am a beginner so for experience i try to enter all the competitions that could be easilt created or i have somewhat creative idea about it. I don't care whether $5 or $100, i just enter. But though trying hard for even the $5 logos i agree with alex that it is just too low. Let us all creative designers run a campaign and try to raise the bars, maybe $10 or $10+.
Won't happen. There will always be the low people that look for a quick buck, but I guess you could say the contest holders get what they pay for.
$100 contest gets lots of entries - Hard to win. $5 contest get few entries - Easy to win. $0 Contest gets no entries - Impossible not to win. .
No matter how you look at it, whether its a $5.00 logo or a $500.00 logo, the client will still ask for additional revisions to tweak it to their liking. It's all up to the designer on whether they have the spare time to enter either. While the $5.00 contests may seem insulting to some, it's a portfolio builder for others - providing hands on experience for designers to better their skills, enabling them to compete in higher $ contests. I see nothing wrong with low & high $ contest, enter if you want/need or don't, your call. The CH's will eventually learn that if they want top quality, it comes with a higher price tag. And then theirs the CH's that get lucky with a quality designer that had some spare time & wanted to do a little (PR) Public Relations work. I see mostly the positive sides of it, to each their own though. Just my 2 cents amongst millions of others
