    Because Hotmail upgrade theirs to 5 GB, they want to compete and win Hotmail offerings. Unless Hotmail upgrade to 10 GB, I guess the counter will slow down now that Gmail is bigger than Hotmail.

    whats nice about the large space they give is you can use it as an online storage location, using this nice app:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_gmail_drive/

    This way you add an "5GB online harddrive" to your pc - works quite nice.

    So after the competitors increasing the space, eventually Google has to increase, otherwise it will lose its customers.
