Hey all! I wanted to write this post as motivation for everybody who wants to be a freelance writer. Although this can be a tough career field to break into, it can be quite lucrative in the end. During the month of July I earned almost $5,000 from freelance writing. For most people this would sound like a great month, but for me it is on the low side. I have had some where I pulled in twice as much. Through my few years as a freelance writer I have encountered every imaginable situation. Here are three tips that have helped me to reach this point in my career: 1. Never stop marketing. Even when you have a good level of work, you need to attempt to gain more clients. If this means that you have to work longer hours, so be it! In the end it will be worth the time. 2. Make sure that you do your best on every project, both large and small. You never know who is reading, or what type of reference you are going to get. 3. Use business contacts to your advantage. Over the years I have increased my income easily enough by networking, and asking current clients to spread the word. Check out my blog post a http://www.chrisblogging.com/freelance-writing-income-july-2007/. This details my July income, and also gives plenty of other useful tips on freelance writing! I hope this helps some of you aspiring freelance writers!
Bigroller - For me, most of my freelance writing work falls into the copywriting category. And since I added some copywriting tips, this is definitely the right place!
Congratulations!! Posts like this are great motivators and helps one get out of complacency (talking about myself).
How 'bout a $xxxxx.xx weekly NET profit margin with the first x having a value not less than the second digit on your present post count - without blogs or DP projects mixed in the fray? Now an NYC parking lot would be closer to pseudo-reality with this, but I guess Content Tycoon earns more from its 30% cut, right?
Thanks for the above post, Chris. I have been reading your blog and found it very informative. It doesn't sound like Associated Content pays much for articles, but when you add the benefit of the publicity you can get from writing for it, etc. it seems like it would be worthwhile to write for them some.
Not sure if you're talking to me specifically. I don't have DP projects. BTW, CT is just a concept project currently. Not that it matters though. Guess it's my "stupid day," because I'm not sure what a parking lot in NYC has to do with KeywordsAndCopy inspiring others to go out and profit.
"Guess it's my "stupid day," because I'm not sure what a parking lot in NYC has to do with KeywordsAndCopy inspiring others to go out and profit. Confused" Awww c'mon - saw your post on some thread here - and by the way, it's all about profiting from content writing services - if you put two and two together, you'll know what you already do!
Thanks for all the positive responses! I am far from a "big time internet player." In fact, I openly admit that I do not know much about technology. Generally speaking, I feel that I am a good writer so that is how I try to make my money!
Okay. I mentioned the parking lot space (for 250k), because I was looking at real estate in Manhattan. I'm slow today lol. Wall Street is wearing me out. As to income, I know of many writers who do six figures a year, so it's not a pie in the sky dream. I'm glad KeywordsandCopy announced his earnings. Far too many think that making a decent profit from writing is damn near a fairy-tale. Hopefully his announcement will fuel many to do wondrous things.
Marketjunction - You are right on! It is possible to make a great living with freelance writing. I am hoping to motivate everybody else!
