We have just started our first adwords campaign for our web hosting company, we have had 5000 impressions but no clicks. Is this normal? Thanks in advance
Yes, look at the Reports tab. (There's a delay of about 24 hours.) Getting lots of impressions but no clicks is pretty typical for the content network - certainly when you start a campaign; once you've looked at your reports you can just block the sites that it's obvious are a mismatch and are never going to get clicks.
Your ads must be showing in the 1st-4th position to have a high click through or maybe try to add a new ad variation for your ad group. I had that same problem because of the bidding, my ads average on 8th position and received less clicks.
If you are using the content network then YES it is very commong to get 5,000, 10,000 or even 50,000 impressions and no clicks. CTR on the content network is always dramatically lower than the search network. If you are using the search network, then 5,000 impresions and no clicks means you need to write a new text ad and / or possibly pick more targeted keywords for your product or service.
That depends> If you have "content network" checked then, yes its normal. If your are not sending your ads to the content network and only appearing in the "search network" then yes, it is abnormal......which should tell you that you are using the wrong keywords. How are you picking your keywords? Web hosting is a very competitive niche.
