Sorry bro, your response lacks the necessary evidence to make such an absolute statement. Yes, corporate interests crave cheap labor. Yes US workers crave decent paying jobs. Yes the government is in bed with corporate interests. Yes foreign nationals like yourself want your slice of the American dream. Those facts all highlight the very real conflict that is going on in our government. The very definition of conflict implies more than one possible outcome. Let me point you to some historical references as to the behavior of politicians during depressed economic conditions. You say all the politicians are in the bag of big business, I say a 20% unemployment rate tells you all you need to know about what is coming, and it is most definitely not the "done deal" you think it is.

Not at all. I worry about the future of America's position in the global rat race. On a personal basis, if the Americans decide slave labor is the way to go, I will be the guy in the business of importing slaves. Just because I roll with the punches doesn't mean I love what my adversary stands for. Elimination of the middle class in America for the idea of bringing the third world out of poverty is just idiotic.

Lets start off by pointing out the premise of your analogy is bogus. US techs without the impact of immigrant labor would be making from 40-250k with a blended average around 125k today. Secondly, as you pointed out, we have, and will continue to harvest the best and brightest from foreign lands. The top Indian engineers would still be working for US firms, and we would be paying them accordingly.

Once you correct the faults in your analogy, and factor in the costs of development of a product like a gaming console against the profits, the difference would have a negligible impact on the cost of theproduct. Of course we would likely still ship the manufacturing overseas so someone making 2$/hr can insert chip A into socket B.

    Because?

Uh, OK. I understand our president is a looser. Thinking like what you just put to print started to spread the last time we had such a guy in office. You probably are not familiar with the "Crisis of Confidence" speech by Jimmy Carter, but it carried the same idea that "America's best days may be behind us". We booted his ass out of office and a decade later we were rolling larger than ever. The future is unwritten, despite what you and I might predict.

Foreign markets mean more $$ in the pockets of corporate investors. That seems pretty obvious. Economically linking nations is also a great aid to international stability and the prevention of war. If we weren't economically linked to Saudi Arabia, we would have probably effected regime change there a long time ago.
