What do you mean by "ok"? Can you do it? Sure, but I think it would have to be a two step processing -- namely: Set a custom 404 page through your control panel to map to a file on the first site On that file, use a redirect script As it's 404 handling, I don't see how it's SEO-relavant, so I'm not sure what else you mean by "ok". However, what you might be thinking is to 301 redirect pages to another site. That can also be done and is also "ok" for SEO.
thanks sean I did mean for SEO purposes.....just wanted to make sure that search engines dont penalise you for it. And does it have to be a 2 stage process? Cant you jut do it with ht access?
Check out Google Webmaster tools Dashboard > Tools > Enhance 404 pages http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/08/make-your-404-pages-more-useful.html -- edit: And I think redirecting is not a god idea. If you think about redirecting to a spam/ad-page.
I've never tried using .htaccess in this way, though it could be used in the fashion I described I suspect. I'm still not sure about your SEO issue, though. What, exactly are you redirecting?
i have a few sites and i wanted to redirect to a comon 404 page explanation and link back to reffering site
