404 code effect google index ???

    Hi All,

    Please recommend I have directory site and many outbound link , I used http://validator.w3.org/checklink i got many many 404 error code ( outbound link)

    I want to know this one it effect to Google index my site or not, Because almost page in my site is 500 pages but currently index only 60 pages

    Reduce as many 404's as possible. What would you consider more valuable, a site that has many useful links or one that has links to non functioning pages? I'm sure they count this as well.

    If you find an outbound link that either goes to a poor quality site or to a non existent site then remove it straight away.
