400 unique visitors per day through Goolge image

    Hi there,

    today I have discovered something really funny. On one of my niche sites I saw an incredible increase in traffic...Yes, I haven't checked my stats for a long time and I get through one (!!!) picture ~400 unique visitors a day. The problem is, that is particular picture is not even related to my product/audience. How can I use this traffic ...these people look for someting completely different... I have added a banner on top that is realted and a popup (only once) to proft on this amazing traffic but I am not sure...

    Any other ideas how to use this traffic by accident the best way ??
    Thanks
    Thomas

    I think this traffic is not going to be great. They may even be stealing your images.

    Think about why they might be doing an image search....

    i think adsense code or something similar would make the best out of your traffic, although your banner is also a very nice thought

    What is it an image of?

    What keywords are in the filename? What about the Alt text?

    You might want to add a note to your site letting people know

    they can copy the image in exchange for a link back to your site.

    I get a lot of google image visitors to some of my sites (that feature a lot of images) and by and large these people are NOT clickers. I don't think there's too much you can do to monetize this type of traffic. I'd watch it with the popups and stuff, Google hates that kind of biz.

    Like BTCollins mentioned, the best thing you can probably get out of this type of traffic is somebody linking to your site. I've had this happen quite a few times (without asking for it) due to the pictures.

    You can force the image not displayed without visiting your website

    Use this javascript below between your
    <head></head>
    HTML:

    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    if (self != top) {
        if (document.images)
            top.location.replace(window.location.href);
        else
            top.location.href = window.location.href;
    }
    </script>

    HTML:
    Now try to open your image directly, please let me know how it works for you

    I've got some animal pictures that get thousands of visitors every day (make no money though, just kids looking) from being number 1-3 in google images.

    I just checked and the pictures don't even have alt text or title, although the filename is the name of the animal, so I guess that might be pretty important.
    The other common factor is that the pictures are quite large - more than 350*350, which I think helps. I believe the surrounding text is as important as the picture itself.

    Beyond that I don't know how they rank the images - these animal pictures are on a travel site not an animal site.

    yes, it's crazy .... That google image traffic is coming through my paintball niche site As a bonus I have added a bodybuilder book. As the cover looked quite ugly I purchased the rights to a another (real image) with a body builder couple and that's what I have called the image "Body builder couple"...and hey, more than 400 unique visitors per day ..no SEO ...nothing ...but as already mentioned: non-paying traffic ...so I have added some bodybuilder banners on top and a popup... I've to wait and see if I can moneytize on this traffic ...
    Thanks for your thoughts ...

    The best way would be a frame breaker script so they land on your page and implement a pay per impression ad. Although 400 isnt much.

    The most value in the traffic is returning visitors if your whole site is related to the image. They may bookmark you and keep coming back.

    I have put some Adsense ads on that with 1.22% CTR ...but at least people click on the ads...I will test what's better and then leave it alone for a while...
    Thanks

    If your getting traffic for people who are taking the image could you put your website address on that image. So they may visit the site to take the image, and then when they use it they will be reminded of you web address and maybe come back - dunno just a thought!

    maybe try additionally to implement this process:

    clickbank -> marketplace -> bodybuilding search -> find -> promote -> earn (or not..)

    ;)

    yes, thanks ...I have added a banner for a bodybuilding product...see how that converts... I have now added Adsense with same images above the ad...and - more importantly - and added the image that has been searched for as a small version on top of the Adsense ad...see how this converts..but then the people see the image they have searched for and may clcik the link (ad :) ) ...
    Cheers

    I think I might get something around that. Google images is great but I agree its not very consistent plus people have learned how to spam it.
