I wonder if there is anyone else out there with an extremely low CPM like me. My sites get around 4000 uniques visitors every day, but my earnings are in the gutter. How low does CPM get? Armin
That's low even for my site which is an entertainment site. I get about 150-200 clicks and > $30/day now. I've been with Adsense for 1 month. It seems they start you out with good earnings for the 1st couple of days. Then your earnings drop (validating clicks, smart pricing?). Then your earnings rise again. If your CPM is low with high CTR maybe some of your clicks are not valid. Try visiting some of the advertisers' websites (do not click your ads) and if they are MFA (made for adsense) sites or they have Adsense ads on them, add them to your filter list.
Thanks for the advice NewToAllThis I'm going to try and see what type of sites my advertisers are. However I don't think its an issue with INVALID clicks, since my impressions can go over 40,000 a day. To answer a couple of questions. I'm getting around 300-400 CLICKS (not visitors) on adsense through a couple of online gaming sites. My CTR is not bad, but my CPM is a disaster. I'll keep you guys updated in case anyone else is having a similar issue. Thank You, Armin
That's such a waste of time. You have 200 slots, and for every MFA site you filter, 10,000 are waiting to take its place. Not only that, but the subsequent MFA site that takes the place of the MFA site you filter will actually cost less, since they got outbid by the MFA site you just filtered in the first place. If you saw increases in CPC after applying filters, it's just coincidence. To the OP: Your earnings are pretty normal for a site in your niche. Gaming sites have notoriously low CPC.
I used to have a CPM 6 times more than I have now. But Since middle of April, 2006 it suddendly started to drop dramatically and never stopped. Sometimes the CPM would be as low as $0.07. I tried changing my ad slots, types and styles. Nothing would make a difference. I have sent an email to Adsense regarding this. I have read many DP posts regarding earnings and noticed that mine are completely in the gutter. Thanks for you time guys, Armin
It really depends on your market. Gaming sites are VERY difficult to monetize because there are a LOT of gaming sites, many which have been around longer, are spidered by Google better and have optimized their text to bring in better contextual links. You're entering a VERY competitive market. Only time and hard work can push you higher. I don't think there is much you can do since most of your ads are probably driving traffic to other gaming sites that get better revenue per visitor -- they use arbitrage to make their profits. Good luck, though, let us know what works!
400 clicks and $10 earnings... Not surprising! There are (so many) niches which are extermely low in terms of CPC. You sites might be some of them... Just a FYI!
That actually might be the reason for the drop you've seen the past month. Advertisers who blacklisted your site because they didn't get the ROI they expected from your visitors...
now clearly overture.com and adwords are different entities, but the amount that advertisers pay on both seem to be pretty close. So when in doubt I like to check overture.com and see what advertisers are paying for particular keywords.. I mean if folks are only paying $.10 anyways, then really how much of that am I to expect from Google?
RIght now I'm at 86 clicks and $25. I will end up with between 150-200 clicks and $30-35. My CPM starts out at $x.xx and ends up between 0.50-0.70. That should not be. If my CPM stayed at $x.xx per thousand impressions, I would earn high $xx. So it looks like Adsense wants to keep you in a certain earnings bracket and the CPM fluctuates to keep you there. I'm guessing it depends on the "value" they put on your site (smart pricing?)
