I was in another forum where a site was being discussed. You know how these threads go. Start on topic, then regress to something else. Well this particular site was being discussed in terms of spammy content, then someone mentioned that it was copied (plagiarized) content, then the site owner's name got pulled into the whole thing. Two years later, you can search for the guy's name, and some of the posts come up. Some of the posts weren't very nice, and I don't think the guy did anything wrong, but hire a content writer that copied a few pages without the site owner's knowledge. So, having seen that develop, I certainly didn't want to be apart of something similar.

What TS saw was probably a combination of backlinks from G, Y, and M.

There, keep the url to yourself, we're no longer interested. :D

    SemperFi,

With all due respect, this post is pointless without the URL. You are asking us to discuss and debate about the results of a specific blog, but won't give the URL. The way you explained it sounds like you don't own this particular site, so what are you talking about privacy reasons for? With 400000 backlinks, I don't think they will worry if you post one little link to show us.

I normally don't get worked up like this, but this thread is pointless without the URL. C'mon....privacy? LOL

    Please read post #21.

And, it isn't about a specific blog, it is a general question about blogs that have numerous backlinks. There are hundreds of blogs with thousands of backlinks. The original question posed was how does one get so many links to a blog, especially in the hundreds of thousands. I checked Google this morning, and some guy had 1,500,500 backlinks to his blog.

    Anyone's thoughts on this?

Look, people want the URL so they can confirm your numbers. As mentioned by someone else, even BoingBoing and Google's blog doesnt get that much backlinks. How will we know WHY the blogs that you are talking about gets so much links if we don't even know of ANY?

But allow me to clear up some confusions. Your 400,000 and 1,500,500 numbers from SubmitExpress.com's tool are a combination of backlinks from G, Y, M, AllTheWeb, and AltaVista. Obviously there are tons of overlapping links, which means in reality there are much less actual links.

I understand everyone's mad at me for posting without the site. I won't do it again. Lesson learned. For what it is worth, the 400,000 and 1,500,500 numbers are totals. Of the totals 1% are indexed by Google, and remainder split fairly even between Yahoo and MSN. If you guys need a blog in order to discuss the methods for garnering blog backlinks, maybe someone should simply introduce theirs, or a buddies, or something like that. Maybe one that is apart of .edu or .gov

It's probably not true but if it is, many of them are probably from sitewide links on some very well indexed sites. In serps, the number of unique sites will matter more than the raw link count.

Well it is true, but that's besides the point. Can you provide more info on the unique sites vs raw link point you just made. I'm considering a site-wide text link purchase from one of many offered at textlinkads.com

You need to read up on basic SEO before buying links. My site (see sig) gives that info.
Anyhow - blogs that are popular will be linked to by other blogs in a sitewide way, which is a lot of links, but they won't all count towards PR. And many of those links won't even be worth much in the serps either. PR isn't that important anymore either.

I will check out your site(s). I'm eager to learn.

You mention "blogs that are popular will be linked to by other blogs in a sitewide way"

Once a writer has good content, how do other blogs find out about it? If the blog is good, but no one knows about it then it's a moot point.
