    This contest is for the logo design for HOS, a German based consultant firm. Feedback will be provided to all entrants, up until contest closing. One winner will be selected. HOS is looking for a logo that communicates professionalism and impact.

    Biz Name: HOS (Herbers Online Services)

    Idea: A German based Internet consulting firm with specialty in English/German translation, online community management, and SEO (search engine optimization).

    Delivery Format: Illustrator (vector format) + PNG. HOS requires the vector as the logo may also be used for offline print.

    Size: The logo should display appropriately to fit within an estimated 350x100 (L x W) boundary. Exact sizing not specific, but must be usable within the header part of a website without taking up too much horizontal or vertical space.

    Motif: Please express your creativity. HOS requires the logo to represent a "clean" and "professional" image. While it can include stylistic elements common in Web 2.0, it must not be overdone.

    Options: Logos that use (a) HOS, and/or (b) "Herbers Online Services" will be considered.

    Colors: HOS is open to your creative color ideas.

    Payment Method: HOS will provide payment via PayPal only.

    Fine Print:

    • Winner must agree to transfer full copyright to HOS, for unrestricted future use, royalty free.
    • Please do not incorporate any graphic elements for which you do not hold the copyright.
    • Please, no stolen or purchased designs. Original work desired by skilled artists.

    Please let me know if you have any questions. Happy designing! =)

    Joe

    Hello Joe,
    My main aim was to keep it 'simple modern professional', sophisticated, display the firm as highly knowledge(illumination), and confident.

    Hope you like it and would like your feedback.

    Wow - we're off to a great start. Mr. Herbers will be making the final decision. However, I will give you some personal feedback on your submissions so far.

    @biruhato:

    I like the color and style of what you have achieved. I would probably like to see it scaled down a bit on the HOS part. If reduced now, the smaller text would be too small to be clear on a website use scaled to say 100-125 pixels in height (or letterhead). Most likely we would not want the name "herbers" to be left in lowercase, simply because it is a proper name.

    For your 2nd entry, I feel that the red arrow is too generic. However, I do like how you focused the logo on the name "Herbers" spelled out boldly.

    @Bucko:

    I like these logos, but they are a touch bit generic in feel. I like the HOS over the strong/solid background color. Mostly the gray globe adds to the generic feel. You may be able to adapt it somehow to improve. Also, I believe it's better to keep the "H" in "herbers" capitalized.

    In your 2nd submission, I do like the Web 2.0 stylized gradient you used. It definitely improves the quality of the logo significantly.

    @HerDish:

    Of your 3 submissions, I like the 3rd best. the first has a good color selection, but is somewhat distracting with the shapes you are using on the left.

    The 2nd one is too much blue. The symbol would probably work better with another color variation.

    The 3rd one is best. I like the use of orange and blue you applied. The orange reflects the German connection well. I might like to see an alternative font choice for "HOS" and perhaps try it in solid black (gradient, glossed, or flat) to contrast with the vibrant colors you are using in the symbol.

    Great submissions. Looking forward to seeing some more designs to compare. =)

    @krisdude:

    I really like the color use here. For some reason, I always tend to associate "star" symbols with celebrity or rock stars, etc, which may move the meaning away from a more professional conservative theme. I would be interesting in seeing your horizontal alignment version with "HOS" enlarged over the "Herbers Online Services" text, similar to some of the other submission alignment. However, why I understand what you were aiming for with the illumination metaphor, I'm not sure that the theme will communicate well to users without some possible confusion.

    @HerDish:

    Thank-you for the revisions. I like the 2nd one in the list. I like the first, but I think the dual gradient effect (in symbol & in text) might be conflicting. I like that you've looked ahead to a possible tagline as well. I'm not sure the solid black pin line would work for a separator though.

    @Bucko:

    I really like what you've done with the revisions here. Nice improvements in the globe. I think we need a contrasting dark color to give it a little more boldness and impact.

    @YoGem:

    Looking forward to seeing your submission. =)

    @XPYOUSEF:

    I think it's really interesting how you combined 3d with some mirroring. However, I think this might be a little too creative for the more toned down professional vibe we're looking for.
