has anyone compared how the two perform (4-topic vs 5-topic ad links)?

Honestly i've only used the 5 links.

I assume that 5 is better than 4, it gives you an extra keyword for someone to see.

but 5 also means smaller font which runs a risk of not being read (noticed). i guess it is not a problem for site with smaller-than-average body font

Each site is unique in its kind. Try to experiment and see which ad will do best over a certain period of time.

    Hi,

I've been using fours and fives. Difficult to know really. You could say that the fifth box would gain you less money if it's a lower bidded keyword. But then if it's the one thing that catches the browser's eye then it's another bit of money to the stash! :)

Personally, and despite know that we're creating pages to make money, I'd rather not shove the ads in thier face and will change them if I think they actually distract from the content of the page. If a surfer is there because they want to be there, then they might stick around. So a smaller text size could be preferable.

But what do I know? I'm very at new the adsense game.

    Cheers

    Chris

5 links has a definite problem with small size.
Ads by Google also looks huge with it.
Lesser chance of getting clicked unless your site's font is small in general. :)
