    Appropriate family guy quote!

Peter (watching Cricket on British TV): What the hell is he talking about?
Englishman: Oh, it's Cricket. Marvelous game, really. You see, the bowler hurls the ball toward the batter who tries to play away a fine leg. He endeavors to score by dashing between the creases, provided the wicket keeper hasn't whipped his bails off, of course.
    Peter: Anybody get that?
Cleveland: The only British idiom I know is that "fag" means "cigarette."
Peter: Well, someone tell this "cigarette" to shut up.

OMG, that's perhaps the most unenlightened comment I've seen on this forum. So because the US administration 'saved out asses' (though as you stated it had more to do wth saving their own asses) then we should give them free rein to let the current one do whatever they want?

Hate to say I told you so, but looking at the current results coming out of the US, it looks like the majority of Americans don't agree with Bush's policies either. That's a lot of Moonbats over there in the good old USofA :p

ALL the crap we are seeing now, ALL the British American and other nationalities suffering horrendous injuries and loss of life, are as a result of what happened after WWII .

Western Foreign Policy (largely dictated by the UK & US) resulted in countries being created/divided up. Israel allowed to declare itself independent etc. Al Quaida was created by US foreign Policy in Afgahanistan to counter USSR policy there. Saddam Hussein was placed in power by America.

Iraq is invaded because they are creating weapons of mass destruction, Yet Israel is allowed to use ILLEGAL WEAPONRY, weaponry that is outlawed by the Geneva Convention
Why Has America not attacked Israel for non comliance with the HUNDREDS of Un Resolutions it has ignored?

Finaly, if 'Japs' is racist, then by definition, so must 'Brits' be ;)

Don't tell me you didn't know this very basic fact about WWII??

You think we didn't know there was a war going on over there or something? Perhaps we were just waiting for the coffee to be ready before we shipped out to Europe?

The left in America was vehemently against interfering in WWII, it was seen as a European problem. Of course, the President knew differently and tried, desperatly to convince congress to act to fight in Europe, but the democrats in office would have none of it.
it's all there, in the history books.. deny it as you may. It is a shameful truth about our history that we didn't react to Hitler and the nazi regime.

Of course, America persured a policy of isolationism and non-intervention from even before the Treaty of Versailles, and snubbed the League of Nations much like the UN these days ;)

Though if you think history gives any country the right to do what they want without being questioned then you're a fool.

OWG, I never know when your joking because you quite often come out with full thought and wisdom, then something like this? So, I am left wondering - joking or not?

Anyways, I hope you are joking about Israel and you actually know why they would refuse to play a part. I don't blame them at all.

Put it this way. All the bullies in school get together and tell the nerd what to do. They picked on them and use to get in trouble and now no one says anything about it so they just team up. What is he to do?
    And thats putting it mildly...

    That is so true.

But the truth is that the USA desperately needs Israel, that is why over 25% of foreign aid from the USA goes to Israel mate.
Most of the bombs that killed all the Lebanese civilians in the last Israeli bully boy operation were flown in from the USA, via airbases in the UK.

A combination of allied forces, bombing, a war faugt on too many fronts, and a lack of natural resources... All this coupled with the Russian winter lead to Hitler's defeat. Like Napoleon before him, that Russian winter will kill you!

Jeremy, I don't think you are giving the Soviet soldier, and the Soviet General, enough credit. It wasn't just Hitler's misstep in splitting his line to go South and North from his direct front on Moscow, nor the debacle of lessons not learned from Napoleon, but the fight west - from Russia back to Germany, is among the most brilliant examples of generalship, as well as among the most savagely brutal examples of pitiless soldiery, the world has ever seen.

I recommend a really good read - Max Hastings' Armageddon: The Battle for Germany, 1944-1945. A major theme of the book is a question raised - that the democracies of the west could ill weather the loss of life that Stalin's Soviet Union, on the other hand, couldn't care less about. His views on Montgomery, Eisenhower, Zhukov and their respective civilian bosses are crafted, unsparing, and deeply probing. All in all, a brilliant tome, I thought. Cool sidenote, I told the author so in an e-mail, and Sir Max Hastings wrote back to exchange a few thoughts on the subject.

We shouldn't have taken any credit and just left Europe to Stalin or Hitler. J/k

What the American military can take credit for is everything free from west berlin on. If we didn't enter, hitler would probably live a bit longer and have a lot more room to fight the Russians off. We took out their flying forces,...the Russians would have had quite a hard time taking on a german army with an airforce...and not much of a contest on the western front.

Hitler was just too eager. He could have had it all if he wasn't too eager.
