4 letter domain scammers!

Well, like many others here I am now very aware of the 4 letter domain scam!

Fortunately, I was looking to do a transaction through escrow.com and not paypal. This was after I had heard of another member who was robbed of his domains after receiving payment via Paypal.

If you were scammed post here. I am trying to see if this scam has proliferated.

I don't know how widespread this 4 letter domain scam is as I have yet to see it on other forums but for now all member should be extremely cautious when receiving payment for domain names registered at Godaddy or any other registrar for that matter.

Here is what I speculate/know happened in my case.
*The scammer found my information here at DP
*The scammer contacted me via one of my websites
*The scammer wanted to buy 4 letter coms
*The scammer wanted to pay via a verified PP account
*The scammer did a whois on the domains as he/she knew they were reg'd at godaddy. Also did not even mention domains which were reg'd with other registrars (hmmm).

Any info would be greatly appreciated! I was scammed out of a 3 letter .net and it was yanked out of my account and I still have a bad taste in my mouth!

Its good that you very looking for an escrow this time. This is the sole reason why people are selling domains thru ebay off late. Stick with sedo escrow and ebay for now.

Many users here have lost dozens of llll.coms. That is some precious investment gone down the drain thanks to a scammer.

Yeah I don't like sedo escrow but I use escrow.com or Moniker.com and have for most of my large $$$ domain sales. Now I am beginning to use them for smaller domain sales. The minimum fee is $25 at escrow.com.
Sedo has a minimum fee of $50 unless it is purchased through sedo in which case it is 10% of the selling price.
Same with Moniker. Their minimum is $50.

I guess it is worth it to be safe. I still deal with paypal for some sales but I do some research before I make the deal.

I personally use Moniker Escrow and have found them to be simply fabulous.
Escrow.com doesn't pay me via paypal as I am a Non-US citizen, so that is a major problem.
I suggest you stick with Escrow for any transaction above $200.

I wouldn't trade a $200 transaction with person less than 15 itrader. It's sad how because money trade was banned scammers are scamming domains now. It's going to be a barrier to the domain industry.

Also vB lincese is very very common for scamming. I suggest that you never buy them unless they transfer it over to you first. You get scammed like 3 times out of 4 times you trade. At least that's sorta what happened to me.

Gomar the problem is iTraders can be manipulated as well. But a person with decent iTrader is a safer bet than going with a person with lesser itraders.

In this 4 letter scam case the buyer offered a good amount for these domains and was also looking for a bulk deal which led to the scam.

Also the sudden rise in llll.com prices whether worthwhile on junk made the loss worse.

@ sedo the transaction fee is 10% if the .com domain is parked with sedo. So a little cut in earnings is well worth.

Ya, itraders can be manipulated, but hey if everyone only traded with 10 itrader plus. There will be a lot less of them. Considering you need to make an account and fake it to 10 itrader to try to scam once.

Plus I really haven't seen anyone that has a perfect 35+ itrader scam b4, their mostly under 10 and a few under 15 I seen.

OK, I think this is wrong thread... However I'm intersted
how exactly did you get scammed? I think you can retract/cancel domain transfer using Godaddy? What was paypal response? What was buyer response?

In summary, you will need to provide more details in order to help us.
