I notice that there are hundreds of posts about individual websites' PR. But there are only a handful of posts mentioning the daily traffic of those same sites. Are there any studies with hard data showing the correlation — or lack of correlation — between PR and traffic?
Last year our sites dropped from PR5 to PR4 - we got better listings and more traffic.... more traffic=more sales, so I found I don't care too much about the PR4, but still scratch my head on the drop.
Until last year, everything was working normally. The PR was still apparently being calculated on a logarithmic scale. So, with each update as big sites like Yahoo, MSN, Adobe, Google, Microsoft etc. get another hundreds of thousands of links ..... that number is used to set the logarithmic scale. And so, it becomes tougher with each update to maintain your PR. So, your PR on a "non-logarithmic scale" might have gone up due to new links etc. And, this would bring in more traffic but on a scale of 1 - 10, your PR dropped. This was of course true while they were calculating PR the "traditional way". I'm not sure what's happening now though
Actually, the "Google is broken" threads started appearing at least 3 years ago, possibly longer. They weren't true then. They're not true now.
You might be right. I agree with the fact that they weren't true then BUT they might be true now. There is a difference between the thread back then and the threads now ....... Webmasters used to complain that they didn't have enough PR but now, everyone's complaining that they've got too much!
Well especially if Google doesn't relize any hard work that you have done. With this gratious update Warpocity.com should be a PR7-PR8 but instead it remains a t a PR3?????
Hey guys! Let's get some real complex rating. Why not have a PR scale of 1 to 100? Come on, then we can really see who has it and who does'nt have it! I reckon my sites should be around the PR65 mark if it were up to me. The scale of 0 to 10 sucks! We're almost on the same playing field when it comes to knowledge (SEO). Then again, some know more than others. That is, if we are all honest in this forum?? Are we? Can we trust each other? Am I paranoid? I think I might be! Am I? AAAAAAGGGHHHHHH!
I really liked this idea of making it on the scale of 100. But things would be too complex then, i guess. But where does our opinion count on this ???
Everytime someone says that Google is broken I go check. I will do a search for a bike and expect it to give results for dolls, but to no avail. I have yet to see the broken google.
Our opinion counts for nought! Does anyone really believe anyone of importance from Google, Yahoo or MSN reads any of our posts? Not a chance! This forum is just a merry-go-round where kids like us think we can ride the plastic ponies but have no idea how to hang on to the slippery suckers!
We already know that google people read this forum, and I believe they get ideas from us. Sometimes it is the opposite of what webmasters want that they do, that way they can learn what "tricks" people use and then they can filter that.
We had a couple of occurances where someone at google mentioned a thread here, You would have to ask shawn or crazy rob to find the threads were it is mentioned, I am terrible at actually using the search here to find anything..... I can never narrow it down to what I remember...
I am testing out another's theory of having 3 inbound PR7 links only for a new site I am working on for a client. I will publish my findings here when I see changes. Will be interesting how long Google takes to crawl and find the 3 inbound PR7 links and do something about it.
