Normally this is attributed to the fact that you have more links pointing to your inner pages than the homepage, although this appears to be occuring on many sites where this is not the case. PR was/is only one factor that affects your position on the search engines. Don't worry abour PR too much, concentrate on building the relevant links that everyone talks about.

Actually using a plain linear scale would have the opposite effect and most pages on the net would get stuck between 0 and 2 - the Pagerank of mega sites like Google and Yahoo are too large and small sites would never get seen on a linear scale.

Google's just showing you folks the carrot. They'll be bringing the "stick" soon enough. Sites with a PR0 don't go to 5 overnight.

I've read about half of the posts in this thread, and none of them are in line with google's modus operandi.

Yep, get yourselves ready for the stick...

sites do leap to decent pr 's if they are built well and have been sandboxed, , my site has been sandboxed a yr 3 days a go.

so a pr 5 is my reward

I think the party is going to be over soon. Some data centers still showing, but many are going back to 0.

Yep. It's only a matter of time...

If it were possible, as exemplified by many posts in this thread, to take a site that's a month old or less and go from PR0 to PR6, then the spammers would figure out how to do that pretty quick. They'd be all over it. And in less than a month we'd be inundated with week old sites with a PR of 9.

My latest site went from 0 to pr3.
Strange thing is that the homepage still has 0 but the forum has 3
    Domain = portal.php.

My darts site is only a couple months old and is now showing PR but my directory is not, they are roughly the same age.

I hope that seochat PR tool is accurate, it's showing a predicted PR6 for my directory.

My six year old flagship site is still only a PR4 even after getting tons of new links.

    Two things:

    1. Page Rank was never about visitors. If you have a one page site with a few words on it and a PR7 link to it, you might just end up with a PR6. So in my opinion page rank was never a measure of how popular a site is or how good it is. Google has stated that page rank reprsents a pages importance, how many and the quality of links that link to it.

    2. Maybe Google has decided to make some of the mid-range page ranks more obtainable? After all a PR5 or 6 out of 10 is not exactly a stamp of perfect approval. Plus since Matt Cutts said that Page Rank effects the google bots visits maybe they found that having too tough a page ranking system stopped many good sites from being crawled deeply and supplying good results.

    Just some thoughts.

I see a lot of people very happy that they have gotten some good PR. What you may not realize is the more sites that get a higher PR, the less important it becomes especially when these are sites only a month old. I have had new subpages of a couple of my sites go to PR6. As much as I would like to believe that is a good thing, it's not. These are not pages that should be PR6.

This PR update has been good for most of the people. But surprisingly as i have seen with many of my websites and some guys are talking about that here as well, homepage PR is still the same while inner pages have gained PR.

Exactly. PR7 is meaningless now. My arcadeforce.com site is not PR7. I have worked on it, but it should not be PR7. It should be PR6 at most. Yet sites that I have worked very hard on have not changed. So, I will not be buying any links based on these new PR values.

I see your point Chris, even i checked your websites, i was hoping Alive Directory would have a PR7, but it still is 4 and arcadeforce is 7, which is surprising.

I agree with Micheal S. This is devalueing real PR. Spammers are definately taking notes on this one. If your, and my, newly obtained PR remains indefinately then I'm going to have to reconsider the way I buy links.
