4,000 backlinks seems impossible for me. How long would it take?

I see people around the forum with like 4,000-6,000 backlinks and that to me seems impossible, or seems like it would take like 10 years to do. How long did it take you and what methods did you use?

 

depending on the quality of links, 4-6k links can be impossible or pis of cake. you can submit to 10,000 directories, 4,000 article sites, 1,000 social bookmarks get lot of links but i will give you one advice which is to focus on building quality links and forget about quantity. 40-50 quality backlinks can do you wonder which you will not see with thousands of links form worthless sites

I got around 30k+ backlinks for my 10 months blog. I only concentrate on blog commenting mainly. I think it is not hard if you know the way and consistently doing it. Try to do more on dofollow as it will give some effect on your PR.

I saw a blog go from PR0 to PR 5 in under 2 months all because of 1 PR 9 link and a PR 7 link that's amazing!

 

The key is to build compelling content that may be viral in nature. Eventually the links take on a life of their own. If the content is good enough you will not need to solicit those links, they just happen.

 

submit a few articles to some directories, that way you can gain alot of backlinks in a short period of time

 

google only shows.. what is it? PR4 and above backlinks??? Can't remember. Yahoo shows them all.

If you wish to spend your days on blogging and if you wish to make blogging your career then reaching a target of 4K-6K is not that tough.

Viral content is the key to effective reach and increasing the true power of a blog/site. Work on creating a quality content and submit to ezine or article submission directories. Do not post the same content to multiple directories as G says that it is a duplicated content and you loose the credibility.

4,600 google backlinks showing in 2 mos? That concerns me a lot.
I wouldn't say that 14,000 back links is out of reach depending on your committment to building backlinks. My suggestion is in addition to all the methods of backlinking that are available is have a plan of who, what, where, when and why before you begin. Sure you can go out and just start building links but many methods are better than others and you can waste enormous amounts of time in the process.

The learning curve is rather high in learning what works for your site/ what doesn't. The advice here is worth what you are paying for it although much of it is true and valid. It is just some of it is worthless and invalid. It takes a while to figure out which is which. There is a lot of rumor, inaccuracies and such on a forum like this. Still the information can be invaluable.

14K is very doable in a relatively short period of time - dave08 got 10,000 plus in 60 days - but that may not be good for you. Just because it can be done doesnt mean it should be done.

i have 2000 backlinks to my PR3 blog, really i dont do any type of marketing, i only used internet like always and participate in blogs and forums what i really want.

i dont think it's impossible, can be done but take time

I think when it comes to links looking at quality is important .

I agree with shadow link building takes time. I find a little everyday is good this helps you aquire your links gradually .

It was mentioned earlier in this thread to submit to article sites. Are there any lists of the best article sites to submit to ?

 

I always use service like 1waylinks,(it's not a farm), or blogging on the article-underground blogs and in under month I get~200 links and PR2,after that looking for quality sites .

I can barely reach 10 per hour without spamming, 14,000 is monumental.

One way I can imagine is easy is making a popular theme for wordpress, joomla or drupal. But anyone who can put up CMS up probably knows how to take the link out of your theme just as well. Not to mention making something hundreds or thousands of people want to use is a challenge within itself.
